That's just BS brother....we're all salesmen to one degree or another.
Everything I own has a price. That doesn't make me a salesman, it makes you a consumer.

Sorry I misquoted you. You said in this instance one would be a ruthless salesman and not a trucker. And just because you don’t like the current truck prices isn’t going to make them change. If I keep both of my trucks the market prices will still be high. As someone who has a business model based on making a profit it’s funny that how other people make a profit has you so upset.

Why do you even tell me that? Where is this discussion leading too? He seem to have got his feelings hurt because I dared to object to the practice of speculating on the equipment to the level we have seen. I don't deny anybody the right to do so. I even said that someone would be called stupid if they did not try, including myself. But the whole picture is bad. Justified but Bad!
Just like in a war it is bad that you have to kill to win it. Killing is bad...unless you are a vicious and psychopathic killer...right? right!?
Looks like I found bad canvas to reflect thoughts here because I am not trying to argue anything. I delicately said that posted truck prices looked ugly high.
Most of you said here or other threads, after you saw for how much the trucks and trailers are being sold:
Ohhh ####, that's insane!! Who are the idiots buying those trucks?!
That's a reaction that does not imply anything positive...so maybe I am not such a loon to say what I've said here.
I am not picking on him - @Long FLD. I am even surprised he wanted to continue this digression for this long. Like it rubbed him the wrong way.
And honestly, I hope he will sell whatever he wants to sell for the record high price because I am a big hypocrite and If I had the opportunity I would do the same.

Business’ purpose is to provide profits to shareholders/ owners.

Beating a sword into a plowshear doesnt make a warrior into a farmer- makes him a poorer warrior though.

Make money where and when you can: it wont always be there to be made.

For some reason you still have an old man communist era logic. From a moral standpoint it's not wrong, but things just don't work like that in a modern capitalism society. It's the same how you got super upset about the whole unemployment thing last year.

When trucks were $160k, people also were not grossing $10k every single week. If someone is willing to pay $200k for that truck, it means that person has money and a will to do that. Nobody is putting a gun at that person's head and making him buy an overpriced truck or trailer.
This country is all about sell sell sell, profit profit profit. Buy cheap sell high. It's everywhere. From grocery stores, to stock market. It's just the way it is and for some reason you stubbornly don't want to accept and understand that

Nicely put - I'll write it down.

That's when you think business only.
What if I am a monk who does not care about money...? If I despise consumption and money..?
Just a handful of wheat grains and a spoon of bee honey is all I want.

When you said years ago you would truck for food: thats when it was clear you’re sense of capitalism is quite lacking.

Enjoy your operation. Operating a business is in my mind to better ones life and that of ones family.
If you choose to live the life of a monk: why own a business?

I understand everything and the discussion I started has nothing to do with communism, especially not the one that you or your parents evacuated from. Far from it. What I try to do is at best an academic discussion touching on a certain phenomenon, which is taken by some of you the wrong way, obviously you too are not comprehending it either, so I suggest you leave it alone.
By the way, taking unemployment while criticizing someone else's efforts to do work is a typical socialistic country mentality.

This is a little bit different than ticket scalping or buying up all the Playstation 5s and reselling them for ridiculous amounts. If this were an instance of someone buying up all the trucks to manipulate the market price, I would take issue with it. I still understand what TallJoe is saying, though. I feel like someone who made $50k by working has contributed more to society, in this instance, than someone who flipped some property for $50k. It's similar to how a self made millionaire might get more respect than one who was born into it. At the end of the day, though, society doesn't care how you get your $50k provided it's within the law.
