Try doing a Google search on Gobekli Tepe and Boncuklu Tarla in Turkey. They are the oldest known human settlements in the world with both being over 12,000 years old, and they built temples on those sites that indicates some kind of organized religion. People didn't build structures, establish trade networks, and engineer structures in such a manner without some kind of centralized government such as a king or monarch who was in charge, and who appointed representatives to oversee other parts of their government or kingdom.

Look at it this way. If world governments collapsed today and we were all left to our own devices, who would be in charge? Do you think that everybody who was able to survive on their own would simply mind their own business and leave everybody else alone, or do you think that whoever had weapons, could organize groups of soldiers that could take and control resources would control everybody? The old saying "only the strong survive" was true in ancient times, and is still true today.

Both coasts are getting hammered right now. Everything in between is clear as a bell.

I think, I am looking for excuses not to go anywhere...
I have not been in the truck almost three weeks. I don't miss it at all.
The longer it goes, the harder it gets to get my ### in there.

I don't blame you Joe. I've been out of my truck for 2 months, and don't plan on ever climbing into another one again. I think I'll be going to the DMV this week to turn in my CDL just so I'm not tempted to go back. My medical card has already expired so I'm half way there.

I think it is better to have it than not to, especially since it is still so early for you but if the card expires, they might revoke your CDL in default. That's what they would do here in Illinois.

@SteveScott . I wish you were able to be at it for much longer! I really think that you were the best example to follow for an independent o/o wanting to stay solo but also with a potential to grow a fleet. You had all the necessary ingredients:
    1. Business plan. Executed to a T! - You proved that the business plan is not something to be dismissed. Even for a solo o/o.
    2. Niche. Real one and unique. Hard to copy for anyone else
    3. No B.S. rates. I did not even realize that those wineries were able to pay as much.
    4. Last but not the least, Working Ethics and Reliability - part of it good equipment that could be relied on.

You had a set up that many could only dream about, including myself. So therefore, it is kind of hard to think that you wrapped it up. I understand your motives perfectly, so I can't blame you. You know ... it just like seeing a friend ditching the best girl on the block, why in the World would he do that?! lol

I'm not sure why I do things the way I do Joe. When I was 22 my dad asked my brother and I to join his insurance company right after I graduated college with degrees in archaeology and anthropology. I didn't want to sit behind a desk all day, but that's somehow what I ended up doing for 30 years. I wound up owning the company and making a great living, then I walked away from it at age 52 and never looked back. My brother bought the company from me and still runs it today with his sons. Trucking looked like something fun to do so I did it at age 55, but my body told me that I was just too old to spend so much time in a truck, so I retired from it. Making a good living was never a problem for me. At this point in my life I'm more focused on spending time with family and taking care of my elderly parents. As it turns out my elderly mother-in-law has moved in with us, and now we're talking about adding a granny unit to the house to accommodate her needs so she doesn't have to be in a nursing home. I've always been a strong believer in taking care of elderly family members since they did so much for us. For the last 2 weeks I've had all three of my kids home with their significant others, one grandchild, a mother-in-law and 6 dogs. It's been like a zoo here, but much better going nuts here than being on the road and hearing about it over the phone. I guess I get it from my dad. He retired from insurance about the same age as I did, then went on to become CEO of a couple banks. Now he just plays the stock market and he and my mom are enjoying life. Healthy for now, but slowing a bit each year. If the time comes when they can't live alone, I'll get a bigger house and take them in as well rather than a nursing home.

I'd still fire him. He never should have been driving so fast. Bridges freeze before roads and the visibility was severely limited. That bridge is pretty high and its over water. Looks like an OD LTL truck. He gets paid well enough to NOT be rushing around.
