The previous post I made was based on the loop I made this current week. IL-upstate NY - WI / $6100 on 2200 miles - that's still good by me but I just got home and looked at the DAT at my reference lane for a possible next week's work and it is worse than I thought.
Even though there's still some potential tomorrow, notice poor volume on one of the juicier lanes of recent months.
Within 2 months, We have come down from "just call and book" $6500 to $4000 revenue on these two lanes with fuel cost increased by about $350.
Mind you that at these volumes calling and haggleing becomes less effective too.
These two lanes at these rates don't look too good...
backhauls...

By the way, since it is a chronicle sort of a thread, it is ok to mention that Utility vans in Chicago are sold out for 2022. They don't have any new allocations from the manufacturer. They might put you on a long reserve list, so when someone drops out, they may give you a call when your turn comes. The price of a new 2023 Utility trailer is $62 000!
New Utility reefers with Carrier unit $107 000.
My van 2017 is between $45 000 and $50 000. I bought it for $31 000. I can't sell it because I have only one...but what would I do if it got stolen...I call my agent tomorrow and ask them if it is even possible to increase the value on it...
Currently, it is insured for $26 000 - which as recent as 2 years ago would have been considered at least strange. But today, it won't buy me much.
I am so curious about where we all are going to be this time next year with rates, equipment prices, etc.86scotty, Dino soar, dwells40 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I ordered a Utility with a Carrier unit in November and it will be here next month. Price was $94K. Salesman told me he had the same specd trailer coming in Q3...price $125K. I said no thanks. With rates flat to lower and diesel and equipment prices higher something has to give.

Congratulations.
Who would have ever thought that miserable vans would be in higher demand than reefers?Midwest Trucker Thanks this. -
Yes after him telling me the price I felt really lucky. I just don't know who is going to buy a $125K reefer trailer. As I told him that's one way to get demand back in line with supply. It's still excellent for good used equipment. I have a 2018 GD with TK S600 I'll be looking to sell and after getting that quote my asking price will be firm lol.

I also bought 3. - 2021 utility reefers a couple months ago with low hours and with s700 units with chrome, lights, t bar, tracking for 125k per trailer.
However, I also just sold a 2019 Wabash reefer with an s600 non light or chrome but with tracking and t bar for $105,000. I bought this trailer during the Covid shut down for $55,000. I also sold a 2019 mega spec’d out Wabash van with every option you can throw in one for $70,000 that I paid $33,000 for new.
So, yes people are out here wheeling and dealing for sure. I bough 3 - 2022 reefers brand new with s600 all the options yada yada a year ago for 76k each all combined. So yeah, things are up!
I’ll be honest even at 105 and 70 it pained me to sell crazy as it sounds. It’s hard to tell what’s going to happen. I may have made a mistake selling that reefer, the van probably not. See, there are no more Thermo kings to be had. And Wabash isn’t building reefers, only vans now. Such strange times.Last edited: Apr 7, 2022
