I'm having an issue and i want your experience....mmm to see if it's just bad luck or a trend.....
I run an older truck, a Mack, so it's proprietary to a point. Over the last year I've been hit pretty hard with repairs like water pump, compressor, alt, starter etc. Most of the stuff is at a year old.......and comes from the dealer.
Well an overheating problem ( by gauge ) occurred today. Temp rocketed up to 240 rolling empty...but at 75 mph and it was 95 outside....so I backed off.......anyway found a wide spot to check the water ( was ok ) but I also saw a calcium trail out of the weep hole in my water pump......so the pump is going..ugh.
Also my new comp has been passing oil....not real bad but still passing. It's a Bendix reman.
Like I said, all this stuff is year or so old and it cost ...... cost in down time, to buy and for the mechanic.
So here's the $64.00 question: Are they just getting cheaper on the reman side or have i had a run of bad parts?
Lemmeknow.....
Truck parts...a problem, your input?

I think some parts are too cheaply made, and i try not to use them. Question is, which ones are cheaply made ?
chalupa Thanks this. -
Last week I bought a new coolant reservoir cap at Freightliner in Coburg. It turned out to be defective. The old one was only holding about 9 lbs. pressure, it's supposed to be 15. I started having all sorts of bizarre cooling system issues. It turns out the new cap doesn't release until almost 40 lbs. & the pressure may have taken out my egr cooler or head gasket. The cap is made in India of all places.
I don't think you can really be assured of buying quality parts, new or reman, anywhere these days. -
You say the truck is older, does it have vee type belts that manually adjust, if so could be overtightened. A lot of people wanna pull a new a/c comp out of box and stand it on the clutch face while putting brackets on or hit clutch face with a light rubber hammer to seat it. Those two minor boo boo's will cause seal to leak every time. As for waterpump could be a cheap made or maybe ph level in cooling sys. Esp if bearing shows no sign of slack but seal leaks

Seems to be true enough.
What is not going to happen is to keep replacing the same components on a annual curve. I'm actually thinking that in some cases NEW should be used.
Take the water pump now weeping..... it's not a complex job at all but it is time consuming...... new would work here and same with that compressor. Mine hangs down beside the frame.... a real beach to dig out of the hole........
And of course new is double the price of reman.......UGH! -
New is usually well worth the price of reman, especially on a/c comp. Water pumps probly not and as easy as the install may seem its only nuts and bolts right that can affect final outcome and longevity. But if we never broke down why would we want in the trking business. It does seem after a certain age some repeat failures you can set your watch by.
