1991 379ext. 893ci turbo 6, 3406b. Standard split 10 with 5 additional low low gears. 2.4 million miles.

 

That’s know as a 15 speed. If high gear is against the dash we called it a 15 over. If high gear was too the bunk it was a 15 direct. Provided the transmission tag didn’t say RTX which in that case you had a 15 over with a regular H pattern

 

I ran a 1976 KW with a 15 up against the dash. You put it against the dash at around 70mph and then it was go time.

 

Loved the 15 with the big hole against the dash.

 

That is my all-time favorite transmission and don't ask me why. I've always loved them.

Has the 15 fallen out of favor ? Seems any new ones is either a 13 or 18 manual.
