I agree with most of that, except at Little America. They have plush white towels. Also find most of their facilities to be some of the cleanest on the road. Just my opinion.
I will also add that I would never use the terminal showers located at my previous employer's terminals. No it was not Swift, but they were disgusting. All the gross crap you can imagine with mold crawling up the walls as well. When you see something like this, I believe it is a direct reflection of the way the company really feels about it's drivers. It really is a sad thing.
Well, all I know is that the only time I got athletes foot was just after showering at our Laredo terminal. That was pretty early in my time with Swift, but I refuse to shower at any terminal now. I have looked in a few, and I never liked what I saw. Truck stops have standards to maintain, at least the major chains. They can not afford to get a bad rap with showers because drivers would boycott them, and not just for showers. Why fuel at a place if you do not want the shower credit? If the showers are that bad, how safe would the food be? The list goes on. Terminals have no such worries. Use at your own risk, and they really do not care that much.
Yes. And they still leave very little room to move around in the actual shower. Notice the actual shower portion of that big room. The shower head is pointed at the back wall, along the narrow depth - when it should be on the right wall facing the opening and long dimension. Still, not as bad as many. TA/Petro have shower heads that have very little range of motion. You are lucky to be able to get the spray down to your lower back, much less your lower legs or feet. Love's is better in that respect. And it used to be, like back when I started about 8 years ago, that TA/Petro had the best shower heads of anyone. Great range of motion and a great spray pattern. Not anymore, even after the mid-term 'upgrade'. There are a few out there that have been designed correctly. Most of those also use shower curtains. And then there are the oh so nice Little America shower rooms, which I gladly pay for whenever I can manage it. A shower AND a large bathtub, a real door for the shower and fluffy mats and big towels - and all for 11 bucks or so. Them I leave a 5 dollar tip, because I use both the shower and the bath tub.
Took a shower at the Loves in Waterloo, Iowa tonight. Girl up front folding towels, washing machine, dryers were running, dude was wiping down the walls in the one next to mine, and water pressure was excellent. It's always hit or miss w water pressure and shower nozzle. Loves usually has the better showers in my opinion.
Never been to Anything but Pilots. Short of the little Pilot down from the strip club off exit 15 in Indianna , all have been well maintained and spotless. . I am a Germ a Phobe to the max and they are cleaner by far than most Yacht Club showers I have seen in my past Captaining years . As far as using the towels, just the use the floor towel to keep my pants dry and change shoes. I bring my own hand towels. Small but dry my 200 pound ### off and they do t fill the truck up with damp towels. Use once and throw on the laundry bag of the week. 2 bucks at Walmart. Buy 20.
As Anyone with Since of Cleanliness and decency should. I hate Another mans butt crack scent on my face in the morning.
