Was talking about this yesterday, and I just don't get it. Must be why, out of our 150 truck fleet, one got hit at a truckstop yesterday and another one the day before.
I am that guy that pisses you off because I am going too slow for your liking. I go slow in truckstops. Same goes for any of our yards, shippers, receivers, and all those other tight places. I also keep to a reasonable speed on tight streets and areas with a lot of pedestrians. I will even slow down to the speed limit in construction zones. If I can, I sometimes will pull over to let people pass, but that is not always possible.
These are the places where accidents happen, and often the reason is because the driver was going too fast. No real point to it to save a minute of time that usually won't matter because you'll just end up waiting at your destination. I figure that I maybe add 15 minutes to my day by doing this, but the payoff is that I am like a million times less likely to have an accident.
However, once I get out on the highway, I run that truck for every bit of the 68mph it will do. I don't waste time and my door stays shut, so I still make great time despite slowing down when circumstances call for it.
In my mind, there are places you can go fast and places you should be going slow, and knowing the difference is the kind of thing you should pick up in your first few days as a rookie. -
am old time trucker told me if they want me their at 0900 they will be really happy if im there at 0930 and their load is safe and intact not scattered in a truck stop on in the ditch

Drivers like that aren't smart enough to use a computer. Hence they ain't reading this thread.
They think rush rush rush makes them more money. I can operate smoothly in my 65mph truck and beat anyone of them to a customer. They don't know how to manage their time right. It doesn't bother me one bit to wait on multiple trucks parking where as them yoyo's go balistic, try to cut behind and everything else. They should be banned from drinking coffee or something.
Like NWMaxi said too. I bet them guys have alot of freight claims.NWMAXI Thanks this.
