Thanks for that very interesting information @drivingmissdaisy, it is a shame though that the language and the tradition is dying out, especially in a world where so many minority languages (Welsh, Breton, the Sami (Lapland) language of the Arctic Circle of Scandinavia and many others, are being permitted, revived and encouraged. I'd like to include Cornish in that too (I have some Cornish in my blood too) but, though there are I think a few speakers it is pretty much dead now, though there is an association Mabyon Kernow (Sons of Cornwall) which I think believes in independance ! The last person to use it as a first language died 200 years ago. Some say it is related to Welsh, and it is Celtic, but it is much closer to Breton. It used to be said that Breton and Cornish fishermen visiting each others' ports many years ago could understand each other to some extent.

I have a Welsh/English dictionary always by my side, in fact it is my mousepad, and somewhere here there is a Cornish one. Nobody to speak with round here though, even if I could. I mentioned before that I knew we were Welsh from way back, several hundred years, but the thing that clinched the Danish before that is that my surname has a 'k' in the middle...and there are no 'k's in Welsh. :D

The highest concentration of my name is on a small Danish island, Bornholm, in the Baltic sea between Sweden and Poland and the most people with it in the world are in Ohio. I just love the subject (ancestry) and might, with a bit more time on my hands now, take it up again. Bore da (Good Morning)

Not surprising. The last portion of the British isles held by the Roman empire was Cornwall and those important tin mines (tin was necessary for the production of brass and bronze). When the Saxons finally drove the last of the Romans out of Cornwall, a portion of them (mostly Latin speakers) fled to northern Hispania, and a lot of the Cornish speakers to Gaul, to Brittany, both of which were still part of the empire.

Last time I was there, I was surprised the store was as clean as it was, considering the neighborhood, but that place is just INCONVENIENT to get to, in, and out of.

The Navajo Truck Stop on the Punjabi Hwy Exit 325 in Arizona is not full 24/7, but be vewy vewy careful on where you park. You will be blocked in. Retardation reigns supreme there.

Man, I'm feeling old now! I remember when that Ontario Petro was brand new, and there were always TONS of spaces open! Heck, I remember when they closed down the old Ontario Racetrack to build the TA and Petro. Steve McQueen and James Garner used to race there...
