Afternoon all! I lost a steer tire recently and it’s looking simpler and more economical to replace both the tires. I’d like to decrease my ratio on the steers and was wondering what to expect from my handling. I’ll be swapping just the steers from 295/75 to 295/60. Anybody done this before?

Curious about this topic because I have been thinking of something similar.. Switching out my 24.5 lo pro tires for tall rubber.

My only concern is that having different size steers from drive tires may mess with the ABS speed sensors? More of a question because I don’t know.

I used to run a T660 with 11r22.5s on the steers and lo pros on the drives, which was dumb because it had 3.55 gears, but whatever. No abs issues.

I'll be doing 11r24.5s on the steers while keeping the 11r22.5s on the drives and I dont forsee any issues.

I got 3:55’s on my truck.
Was thinking I could bring the rpm’s down a touch and gain a little speed..1-2 mph.

It wouldn’t be a significant difference but maybe just enough to help with mpg and a little extra speed when needed. Got 342k on my drive tires and wanted to get new rubber before the snow flies..

Ask the car hauling crew how hard it can be to find odd ball sized steers when you need one on the road

Sometimes that's the way you need to look at things.

On my last company truck, I had a similar setup, tall steers and lo-pro drives (my boss was an idiot). My speedometer would show 2 mph faster than my actual speed.

When I switched to tall drives, it read 2 mph slower than my actual speed. So I gained 4 mph. Of course I never told anyone because I didn't want them to turn my truck down LOL.

Can't say that I noticed a difference in MPG's though, but I never paid much attention to that as a company driver.

My thing is performance. Wondering will the handling get better with not to much of a loss in economy and also not too much wear on the infrastructure you know what I mean?

Plenty of people run tall drives and lo pro steers that I know, there is not N issue doing that, I run tAll 22.5 steer and when I switch out my drives with are lo pro 24.5 I am going to switch the. To talks. I have ran 255/70 22.5 on the steers with lo pro 24.5 drives and it looked a little goofy doing that but never had drive line issues

Most carhaulers run 295/60R22.5 on the steer and 255/70R22.5 on drives and trailer with no issues performance wise. I did the same for 8 years and the last year I have been running the 295 in all positions. The main reason I did this switch is so I can carry one spare for all 18 positions and can pull my steers off early and use them later on the trailer. I use Best One for all my tires and they generally have them in stock. They could be difficult to find in small town America. Another reason I like to carry one spare for all 18 positions.

I had 11R 24.5 and I went to 24 low pro because I had a low 5th wheel. I replacedmy 5th wheel and went back to 11R24.5. You get a little bit more top end speed with 11R, and lower rpm.
I have also had 11R 24.5 on the steers and 24 low pro on the drives in the past, with no problems.
