I’ve never seen a police-style radar on a truck, but I can imagine someone maybe getting a deal on a used/surplus one. My truck (and most fleet trucks made for the past decade) has a radar unit mounted in the front bumper as part of the collision avoidance system. It annoyed me at first but I’ve grown accustomed to it and now I like it fine.
Truck with a radar… not a radar detector

Could be an aftermarket install. Newer tractors have it built in already so it’s clean and hidden, but older models get Jerry rigged with the latest and greatest by the shop mechanics.

The front radar in the bumper tell the computer how fast traffic in front of you is going. So it can automatically adjust your truck speed. If they stop the radar will see it. Then it can automatically stop your truck to avoid rear end collision.
since the computer can see all this info. They show this on screen so the driver can see how fast they are going. You can see how many feet and seconds in front of you they are.tscottme Thanks this. -

Hmmm, yes well, we all know the next step, no need for an expert driver or his experience. 'Till the electronics fail that is. I wonder if that was what the Dali had, and everyone was tucked up in bed or chomping away in the messroom. Bridge? What bridge?
