They put the fines that high so your happy to pay 20-50% when negotiating it down. And they still make good money.
We should give our shippers rates of $20 per mile so they happy to get it for 3 per mile.

    BAYOU Thanks this.

Well, i was coming from Ohio going to Allentown PA on I-70 and i set my GPS to avoid Tolls at all cost and that GPS took me through Mountains, small bridges, sharp curves and that might be whats going on? Drivers avoiding those expensive tolls.

    BAYOU Thanks this.

Only in Pa, they love truckers that are simple enough to do stupid things.

How much do you think it costs to rebuild a bridge? How about a road? the limit is the limit accident or not. It sucks just be glad it's not your wallet!

I can do it way cheaper than tax payers pay the state to do it
Just here in beaumont,tx on i-10 they are wanting 100/million to widen 18 miles of the hwy

i dont think anyone is disagreeing that the bridges and roads have limits

the concern is how punitive should a mistake be?

imagine if you were fined $17k for every mistake you made out here on the road, "because the law is the law"

i could understand if a local company is overloading a bridge in spite of warnings, then yes, both barrels

but for an OTR driver to make a wrong turn and now he has to pay a $1,000 or $10,000 fine is pure tyranny

Looked it up on google maps. One lane bridge with a 5 ton limit. It looks like he must have been going north, the bridge is right at the end of the road and once across the turn onto the intersecting road sure isn't made for a big truck. Had he chose not to cross the bridge looks like he would have had to back up quite a ways.
