It's being since forever.. Roman empire? Bread and entertainment? People are happy when they are fed and watched a good show.

The root of the issue is he lied to get his cdl. If he wouldn't have bribed somebody or paid somebody to illegally give him a CDL then all those people would not be dead. There is nothing more to talk about. He knowingly did what he did and should face the consequences of his known actions.
Now if you want to bring the CDL examiner that illegally gave him his license up on charges too, I'd be all for that also.

I don't fully disagree. He shouldn't have to take all that heat by himself. Whether he lied or not to get his CDL to me is somewhat of an issue, but he got it. By hook or crook, he got it. He got through the cracks. At that point, he should have been properly trained before going out on his own. For crying out loud man, how people get a CDL and have no business even getting in a truck? Yet they still go through the megas or whoever to get training. I guess I'm thinking about my own journey too, and looking back, 3 weeks of school and a month with a trainer really want enough time. It ain't even a guarantee that a student will encounter every type of situation in that time. I get where you're coming from, but I still think going forward, that the preparation for these students needs to be looked at a little more closely.

Again, but if nobody explained to him the purpose of the ramp, how would he know? It could just be landscape or scenery to him.

I think 110 years sentence in nuts. Having tax payers pay to house criminals is beyond crazy to me. If it’s deemed they should never be out again then give them 12 months to appeal and then pull the trigger.

Commercial Driver’s License Manual – 2005 CDL Testing System
Without reading this book one can not pass the Permit Test
"Escape ramps have been built on many steep
mountain downgrades. Escape ramps are made to
stop runaway vehicles safely without injuring drivers
and passengers. Escape ramps use a long bed of
loose, soft material to slow a runaway vehicle,
sometimes in combination with an upgrade.

Know escape ramp locations on your route. Signs
show drivers where ramp are located. Escape
ramps save lives, equipment and cargo
    ."

I don't care about nothing you just posted. You can read a book all day, but if you're not getting hands-on, on the job training, you won't learn this job properly. A book does only what you said, help pass a permit test. It's a reason for trainers and experienced drivers that give hands-on training. It's no other way to learn about driving a semi, and his training was lack thereof. A person can skim through the book and pass it after one or two tries. Give me a break.

No point in arguing with him. He doesn't believe in personal responsibility. It's always someone else's fault.

I've figured that. The reason I'm kind of "arguing" is that other folks are reading as well and someone may learn a thing or two. I did learn a few things myself by doing it as well)
