Can anyone direct me to a list of "Trucker Lingo" and/or definitions? As someone not in the business yet, I find that I have a lot of questions about terms used in some of the posts. Ex. Covered Wagon, fuel surcharge, are tarps the things they sell at Wal Mart like Tyvek? Or are they something else?, etc. I really appreciate all of your help and the useful information on this site. Thank you to the mods for making it happen!

covered wagons are flatbeds with uprights in the side-pockets ..then plywood is placed between the uprights... then usually aluminum bows are put across the width of the trailer from the top of one upright to the corisponding upright on the other side of the trailer.. then to top it off there is a heavy pvc style tarp that covers the bows - looks kinda like a huge pioneer coverd wagon (hence the name)
the tarps are not tyvek.. the tarps are heavy gauge PVC - almost rubber like but more pliable.
4 weelers are any vehicle with 4 weels (dur)
bobtail = truck with no trailer
big truck traffic control = using the slowness of the truck to block a lane of traffic that is blocked ahead by construction or an accident, the idea is to get the 4 weelers to merge into the appropriate lane before they get to the point where they MUST merge - in theory it should work but rarely does.
the zipper = the dotted line in the middle of the road
lot lizzard = truckstop hooker
full grown bear = state highway patrol
plain white wrapper = DOT enforcement - usually identified by the plain white crown victoria car that has black steel weels and a spotlight
chicken coop = DOT scale house
----- most of the terms that you learn you learn from LISTENING (not talking) on the cb -- word of caution tho.. don't take everything you hear on the radio as truth
and for the love of god.......if you have something stupid to say.. stay off the radio.baseballswthrt and Cybergal Thank this. -
Thanks for answering. Hopefully other folks will post some more non standard terms and definitions!
