Howdy Folks-
My name is Dan Haught and I am a graduate student in Sociology at the University of Colorado.
This spring, I will be beginning a long (2+ years) study on the work lives of truck drivers. I have been given permission from Wise One to use the board to aid the research.
I look forward to interacting with ya'll over the next few months!

Hello Dan, Should be an interesting ride! My parents met at CU in Boulder,my sister was born there I was born in Co Springs left the state
when i graduated HS. I was a heavy duty parts man for 20 yrs and decided I needed to do something else, went to a driving school in southern VA and am in my last two weeks of training with a flatbed co out of Mississippi, I currently don't have a residence, will be living on the road for a while but am working my way back to CO. I've been around the industry many years but wanted a different perspective, a new experience, If i can be of any help feel free! Wish you luck!! Good Info here on this forum! and Welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome folks!
I'm what's called an occupational sociologist, or at least that's what I'm training to be. These are folks who study the work lives of every day Americans.
In the limited amount of research that I have already done, I have found trucking to be an occupation unlike any other... full of long hours, demanding pressures and competition, and a wide net of confusing state and federal regulations. I honestly don't see how ya'll do it!
And Dennis- When you make it back to Colorado, I would love to sit down and interview you if you're up for it! -
Driving has it's ups and it's downs. If your married, I think it's rougher, unless you met while you where otr, and are used to being apart.
Good luck with your studies and welcome aboard. If you want to see how crazy truckers can be, check out the last post threads, and join in on the fun. -
Would be my pleasure, but it might be a while as the company currently working for does'nt run company drivers there only OO's, after I get my
my 1 or 2 yrs experience, then I will be able to put my roots back down
there! My Mom is in the Springs, if I'm able to take some time off and visit
her this summer I'll let you know. -
Welcome aboard, Socy Grad!
I'm sure I speak for others when I say it's an honor to be a part of your study. And I (we) wish you the best of success in your two year study.
Wait a minute!
TWO YEARS?!
Shux Howdy.
It takes less time than that to learn how to drive a Big truck.
Are you sure you don't want to reconsider? I hear there's a shortage of Big truck truck drivers.

The next part of the study involves sitting down with some 'actual' truckers and talking with them. Does anyone know what would be the best way to get in touch with some drivers in the Denver/Boulder, Colorado area?
