seems like a job driving on frozen roads in Canadia during the winter might be a good fit .
Big money and it only lasts a few months.

I don’t blame him. taking your retirement in small chunks while you’re still young and healthy enough to enjoy it. Ain’t nothing wrong with that .

    PM incoming.

Search for companies that haul “secure “ cargo .

    Yep
It’s a lot to ask, but it’s the owner of the cargo requiring it , and they are the ones paying to have the cargo moved ,

Thanks for the advice, the big problem on my mind is renewing my CDL early next year, at which time, I'll have been out of the truck for a year.

    Team818 Thanks this.

Do you mean renewing your CDL early with the DMV? That shouldn't be a problem. It hasn't been for me. I haven't driven a truck for about 7 years and the DMV still lets me keep my CDL. They get to charge me a little more for a Class A license. I just can't actually drive a truck until I go in for a current DOT physical.

    Team818 Thanks this.

I don't know what state you are licensed in, but if you don't keep a current DOT physical on file with the DMV, your CDL will be downgraded after a certain amount of time. I'm sure that time varies by state, but it's worth looking into.

If i had a dollar for every time you’ve posted about your experience with Knight, my wages would be supplemented enough to keep up with inflation. Lmao

In all states you self certify your status, Interstate, Intrastate, or Excepted Interstate or Excepted Intrastate. The excepted categories cover things like school bus drivers, driving for a volunteer fire dept and more. My state all I had to do was checked the Excepted box and that was it. I have done this for a few years now. When I'm ready to go back driving, all I have to do if get a physical done and get the form in to the license office. I have heard though that some states ask for documentation that you actually do those types of Excepted driving. Best to get in touch with your states dmv and find out.

In my opinion some people were better with their money back in the day. Now a general truck driver does make less then they did back in the day when adjusted for inflation, so does everyone else.

I make almost double the average wage for a truck driver and so do the guys I work with. Yet I have 60+ year old coworkers that have to drain their retirement just to move across the country. People have way more things that they chose to spend their money on in today’s world. They don’t have an income problem, they have a spending problem.

What a lot of people today can’t understand is that 40 years ago the dollar went a lot further than today.
