    Roehl are real hardasses about employment history LOL

    I had an employer that wasn't returning their calls and they went out of their way to question if it was a real reference or not.

    Yes is would be a positive thing but like you said,everyone you call turn you down.Does it have to be a trucking company or can it also come from O/O"s?

    Good question on the O/O but I believe they require a trucking company. I believe it would be valid even if its from the quarry or other local company just that they would give you a position driving trucks.

    Actually when I talked to the individual in charge of WIA today she told me I should apply for food stamps as that will help me in getting qualified so am going to be doing that.

    I'm just not sure what I can offer for that time frame as I was living on the household income and assisting her pretty much 24/7 as she needed assistance to go to the bathroom so it wasn't constant just required to be there always. Part of the WIA is for individuals who have been out of the workplace for a extended duration so I'm hoping I can find someone who will. We have a local cement company that I will be trying also there are a lot of job listings for tanker/hazmat endorsements in the area for the oil rigs. I believe most of them want 6+ months experience though. As for giving up at this point I'm like you said not giving up. I just hope I can find some companies willing to give me the paperwork. I think with a CDL in hand I will have a better chance of getting hired on somewhere then just a potential for it in the future.

    Yes up until now I was looking at only companies that had their own CDL school. I'm hoping that opening it up to just companies that are taking new CDL drivers will give me more opportunity. I think the companies who are training are in a better position to be picky as far as who they will train since the economy is so bad right now. I'm hoping the ones who don't are more willing to work with me as far as employment goes.

    If the companies would expand their work history beyond the 3 years which I was taking care of my grandmother I would be in a better situation, I have a BS degree and served in the military, worked for 18 months as a supervisor and 3 years as a research assistant in college. When I set out to complete something I generally do and I have a good work ethic in 18 months I never missed a day of work and was only late one time 10 minutes since my battery on the vehicle died.

    The part of the equation you are missing I thought we offered earlier but it is this:

    To the best of my knowledge, trucking companies are required by regulation to collect and keep for inspection the following:

    At least ten years of employment history for experienced drivers. (Even if I start my own company, get my authority and drive my own truck I must do this for me!)

    At least three years of employment history for new trainees.

    Figure out a way to make this happen, try Intrastate (may have different rules and regulations) or look for another profession. While I'll be the first to say few things are written in stone, I'll also say nobody is going to take a chance that will get them dinged in a FMCSA Audit.

    I don't know how many ways I can tell you, you must close the gaps in your job history. The feds see this as potential prison time. Facts don't matter unless they are documented.

    I'm sort of in your shoes; I am too at home taking care of grandparents; but I'm only 20 (Turning 21 in 187 Days); I haven't had a job yet; been at home taking care grandparents they manage a self storage; and I pretty much the maintenance man :p , But Anyways I have a lot of volunteer expierence (Computer Admins/Network Admins for many Organizations - About 6 Years worth) plus college for a year. I've called around; and i have a list (CRST, Werner, Watkins&Shepard, And Gordon Trucking All Said "Just send a verifiable letter stating that you volunteer'd there and get supervisors numbers" along the lines of that;

    Now; I don't know how to prove that i was with my grandparents helping them out so; I've looked for a job and have a under the table type of thing which i can say is volunteer; I could do it that way or ask my supervisor if i could actually get hired;

    I'm going to united truck driving School in January If the Good Lord Allows me to; and will be paid by the state and as well as Good old Work around the house allowance; My Primary Company that i wish to work for was Prime but now Is W&S then CRST then Gordon Then Werner;

    Carriers are required to get a 10 years history but must document at least the previous 3 years employment. If you cannot document the last three years, you will need to prove what you were doing during that time. You may see if you can get a letter from your grandmother's doctor, minister, etc., that tells what you were doing during the last three years. Employers want to know whom they are dealing with and that you are trustworthy. We carry some valuable cargo and equipment can be well over $100,000 empty. No potential employer will risk an unknown who may take their truck or steal from them. They want to know something about an individual before they will give them a truck to drive.

    BigJohn54 Thanks this.

    Thanks G/MAN, I kept drawing blanks on suggestions to document that time.

    Whether you were in school, in the military or sacking groceries, you must be able to document at least your last three years. You must list the last 10 years whether employed, in school or whatever you were doing during that time period. If you were not employed or in school you will need to find a way to document what you were doing. Letters from lawyers, doctors, clergy, CPA, etc., can work.
