I get that... But how do you figure they dont have much to pay for? Times have changed recently with rising cost of the "media wars" were in (neither Iraq or Afghanistan were official acts of war declared by congress), potential changes to tricare... The cost of living, downsizing of bases, etc.. Theres less and less of base resources and more use of local resourses.. Which really drain a soldiers resources. I left in 02 and even since then the force has changed a ton. It really isnt as worth it to join as it once used to with the changes in retirement benefits recently as well.

I have two degrees and one pending masters. Believe it or not I started driving because I wanted to. I got tired of the same old BS, walked away from it and feel better.

BA in Computer Science, Plus 6 years experience. When you work in IT for 6 years and earn barely enough to keep up with bills with 4 roommates paying there share too. I needed something else. College is broken.

I live in a military town (Air Force Base) and I'm not seeing where military folks don't have much to pay for. Yeah, maybe they get an off base housing allowance, lots of military in my apartment complex, but they and their families shop mostly at the same stores, eat at the same restaurants, buy cars at the same dealerships, etc. Only perks I see are maybe they get to shop at the Post Exchange, and the housing allowance. I don't know that the pay scale is all that great considering.

Precisely. When I left in 2002 as an E-4 I was making about 2200/mo... maybe a bit more with 1800-2000/mo takehome... IF that... and that was living off base. And cost of living in Colorado Springs was not cheap either. And, now, the gov't has taken away many benefits, raised the cost of Tricare, not changed pay much since I separated, and changed retirement (so i've been told from a few family members that are veterans) so that you don't get it immediately after you separate but rather at legal retirement age.

On a side note, My former sergeant (E-5) had a family of 4 and made 27 dollars above the max amount for food stamps in 2005 and was denied because he made too much. Pay sure isn't increasing with inflation, thats for sure.

you guys, are my worst enemy!:biggrin_25523: 5 minutes ago, before to discover this topic, I was thinking I'm something special.:UFO: Master degrees in P.R. and communication sciences degrees, multiple training courses.... blah, blah... Now, I see I'm not the only one. #### it! You broke my day. I would like to meet in person each one of you, cause I got tired to talk about freight rates, fuel price, wide singles ( I meant, tires), lanes .... and any other subject like these. By the way, I'm in Montreal, too and I'm the owner of that white Columbia where is written Landstar. Do I get credits for my English!?

I have a BS and I worked as a machinist. I loved the work, but hatted working with other people. I switched employers a few times, but never found a place that the coworkers were there to work. I want to work and to have co workers; to many of people wanted to hang out and to be friends with everyone.

My wife was an RN / trauma nurse and has 2 BS's.
