I used both. RM & Garmin have slightly different common errors. The Garmin has a nicer screen & is a bit more durable. The RM was easier for me to use & easier for me to create the EXACT route I wanted to use. If you want to save money get a 5 inch truck GPS rather than 7 inch. When you drive most of the necessary info comes from the spoken prompts. A 5 in GPS can be located in more places around the dash & windshield. You will need to use a GPS for a few weeks to see which one works well for you. Whichever you use you will be frustrated frequently until you learn it's quirks & mistakes. Neither one is a brain replacement which is what most newbies expect it to be. You've never been as lost as you can get lost following a GPS without a common sense filter.
If you use Trucker Path instead of a truck GPS you better be on the Verizon or ATT network. If you are not your TP will drop out as the smaller cell carrier network dead spots do their mischief.
TruckerPath as a truck GPS, is it worth it?

TruckerPath isn't trust worthy for GPS nor parking information. Many threads have been made about this here.

We run Trucker Path Gold on a iPad mini mounted to the dashboard. I have heard the horror stories about Trucker path in the past and I can only assume they have evolved because we are very happy with the current version.
some of you might remember when we got into a pickle in Lexington Va because of a low walk bridge to the military academy football field. The Atlas showed the bridge but all gps systems at the time didn’t show it EXCEPT copilot. Lesson learned. We now check the Atlas and google street view when route planning.
We prefer the Truckerpath map view over the the others as its the closest to google maps which we have used for a decade in cars. The map is now pretty feature rich with info, and switches to an animated street view for exits. we haul a lot of 1.1 -1.4 and the recommended hazmat routes have always checked out.
IF YOU ARE DOING PROPER ROUTE PLANNING THEN YOUR CHOICE OF GPS SYSTEM IS JUST A MATTER OF PREFERENCE.
IMHO that is fake news sir! Haha, seriously though TP is pretty good these dayslual, Long FLD and nextgentrucker Thank this. -

Yes for most of the trucker sheep population we have out here today you are correct. Some that spend hours a day on their phones surely can find an alternative. Mom and pop places are the best. Look around.
lual and nextgentrucker Thank this.
