i have to be honest here. i smoked pot for 20 years up until 2 months before i went to school to drive. i decided the benefit wasn't worth the risk PERIOD! i have been smoke free since JAN. 9th, and you know what! i don't miss it AT ALL!!! it is like a financial investment , you have to weigh benefit VS risk. and the risk of ruining my new career was SOOO NOT worth the benefit of being stoned. sure i drove around for YEARS in a 4-wheeler high, and (in my case and many others) it actually caused me to drive safer IMO. (as to not get pulled over and i seemed to drive slower and less aggresively as a result)
BUT MY POINT IS IT IS NOT WORTH IT!! ONE STUPID MOVE BY A 4-WHEELER AND BOOM!! AT THE LEAST YOU WILL NEVER DRIVE A CMV AGAIN. AT WORST YOU COULD SPEND YEARS IN JAIL FOR MANSLAUGHTER AND HAVE TO LIVE WITH THAT.

Marijuana is relatively harmless, and frankly I see nothing wrong with one guy popping open a beer after work, and another lighting up a joint. If they're not driving, who cares? As long as they both enjoy their drugs in moderation and continue to be useful members of society, let them enjoy themselves.

The fact remains though that beer is legal, pot isn't. Stupid, yes, but at least for the foreseeable future that's the way it is.

I smoked my share of locoweed prior to being issued a CDL, but haven't touched it since. All bets are off though the day I retire, as I'll be looking for some. But until then, with current laws the way they are written, I want nothing to do with it.

So far I have held 2 driving jobs that didn't require a drug test. I hardly ever drink and I never do anything else so no worries on that.

It is my understanding that all commercial carriers are subject to preemployment drug testing and random drug testing.

My boyfriend smoked daily for over 30 years. When he came home last year and said he wanted to be a trucker, I didn't think that he could quit. But quit he did no problem. And I don't have to live with that horrible smell anymore. I never want him to quit trucking because that smelly habit will return.

Not sure how they do it, but I didn't take one at either.

I run a straight and narrow so I wasn't too worried about it. I'll take a test anytime anywhere with no worries at all.

At my husbands last place of employment, they scheduled a random drug screen the same day that he was having surgery on a hernia. :biggrin_2552:

The time? An hour and a half AFTER the surgery!

The nurse wheels him over to the drug screening part of the hospital for his drug screen, in a wheelchair, because he's still pretty much out of it. The lady that does the drug screen takes one look at him and gets mad. She calls the company and tells them "There is NO WAY I'm doing a drug screen on this driver! He's got darvocet and anesthesia in his system from the surgery today!" Then she looks at me and says "What the heck are they thinking?" I told her that I even called them and tried to get them to reschedule the drug screen and they thought it would be convenient since he was already going to be at the hospital.:biggrin_2554:
