Polishing the Chrome counts as exercise....some of the tanker rigs I have seen lately look like they take the better part of the weekend to polish.....:biggrin_25525:

Not all of us are as lucky as you. You should be very thankful your company dose pay for Idle Air and dose not haul to grocery store warehouses. You are one of the fortunate ones. But a lot of other drivers on't got it like that. Tonight some driver will be looking for a place to park on I81 in virginia. He will be hoping the State Trooper won't mess with him. Somwhere there is a driver hiring a lumper and dealing with the grocery store warehouse. Because it was either take that load or sit!

My stsatisics are a rough guess. But I don't think I'm too far off from saying that 60% of drivers are diabetics. This is why the DOT is about to crack down on drivers and making the health standards stricter.

You are correct when you say OOIDA is useless. but with enough members demanding better of them. They would lose too much money not to act.

Finally, I don't give a #### what you think of my credibility!:biggrin_25512: I happy that your job is all sunshine and lollipops!!! But for a lot of drivers out there it is tough. You sir are a good example of why we can't get anything done. Your atittude seems to be hurray for me and the hell with evryone else.

I have seen how truckers do not get the respect they deserve. From seeing how people look at them in public or things people say when they do not know anything about this industry.

A few truck stops here in Oklahoma that used to let trucks park there now run them off unless they are buying fuel. How stupid because both of these gas stations / truck stops are now getting hardly any business because they ran off the trucks which bought stuff from them and fuel.

They are owned by people from India. I told my husband " Well with all the trucks taking up all the parking in the back they probably did not have enough room to tie up their camels".

The owner was so rude he completely pissed me off, I had to follow my husband to the other side of the highway which is their competition (Love's) so he could park his truck for the night.

I appreciate how they work long hours , missing their wives and children , sleeping in a truck, living out of truck stops . There is no way I could do it ...I admit it.

I would like to go with my husband sometime , I think it would be fun.

Yep....I went into the Wallyworld in Winslow last week to pick up some stuff....Big sign says "No Truck Parking"......Yet there were 20 trucks parked in the back lot.....
The locals can spot or "smell" a driver from a mile away......I love the looks they give...Oh...another one of those truck drivers....
Oh well....without us, they'd be walking around barefoot, naked, and starving.....

My wife rode with me a few times. It's not a picnic just riding a long either. Somehow, it makes you more tired than the driver. And not being able to go the the bathroom when you want, or sleep decently, or to eat decent food will put a hurt on someone not used to it.

We'd get home, and she'd be totally exhausted. More so than myself in fact.

The locals around winslow dont look any better! And I had trouble with parking, and rates, and shippers/recievers with bad attitudes, just like everyone else, but I think I minimized it by overall enjoying what I do, doing it right, and working hard.
And When you say the locals can spot me a mile away, you are right. They see a clean, polished, well maintained vehicle pulling up.
When you say they can "smell" me a mile away, not so much.
And I love the look to, when I get out of my clean, polished, well maintained vehicle, and they see me, a clean, polished, well maintained guy. They are probably thinking "He dont look like no truck driver"!!
I have talked to more people who are actually greatful of truck drivers, and are interested in what we do, and understand our hardships, than people who dont like us.

Wally world shoppers have a worse rep than your average truck driver. At least we have a partial excuse for going a day without a shower or a shave.

Going to agree with you on this one. I've been riding with hubby since January, off and on. I finally have figured out the liquids thing, got that under control. LOL At home, I'll drink a half gallon of water easily throughout the day. Can't do that in a truck.

Things are better since we got the APU and the fridge and microwave. But I still have times when my normal "routine" is not on schedule when I'm with him.

But for me, its worth it, because I'm seeing places that I've never seen before, and probably wouldn't see if I wasn't in the truck with him. AND you cannot beat the time together, with no kids and no drama (we have teenagers).

I look forward to the weeks that I go now. But at first, its definitely and adjustment.

    I like this post.

Seems like everyone nowadays is trying to dig into the trucker's pockets. Want my business, Mr Truckstop Owner? I want a sitdown restaurant with food that has to be eaten with a fork, followed by a glass of iced tea served by a waitress with a smile on her face. Where am I buying fuel at? The place where I can get good food. And thats where I am going to park for a nap too. Pilot truckstops take notice: the only Pilot that gets my business are the ones that have real restaurants.

I saw a trucker get a ticket for doing a rolling roadblock in Illinois. Construction had one lane down and a cop took this opportunity to raid his pockets. Thats fine. I did a 4 wheeler. Drove right to where the barrels started coming out into the travel lane and hit my turn signal. Why should truckers get into the open lane a mile or so back if we can cram into the closed lane and wait for the last moment and switch?

Why be courteous in a commie state? Commie law states that trucks must use the right lane unless passing. That 4wheeler thats jumping on the bigroad is the typical zombie driven 4 wheeler. They see you and expect you to go to the left lane. If you jump left, they will speed up and pass you on the right and all the other 4wheelers who are travelling 15 mph faster than you will also pass you on the right In some areas, this will get you a driving awards from Smokey. So when jumping on the bigroad, Mr4wheeler has a choice to make...gas pedal or brake pedal, because that arsehole-driven truck is not moving over.

I dont buy anything on the west coast. All food, all gifts, all souvenirs, all vacations, all of my capitalistic dollars will not fall into communist hands. I hear you guys are really hurting out there...

Drivers were whinning about the same things back in the 70's. I don't touch loads! I get detention after two hrs. I have a apu on the truck. I also have a 17 inch flat screen, surround sound, microwave, refer/fridge and do all my paperwork and dispatch over the net. Driver's are ALWAYS going to gripe, it's in the blood. A Nation wide strike would draw attertion to the problem but will never happen, you can't get three drivers to agree on what truck to drive , much less anything else. Answere? I don't have any! Yesterday while I was fueling in rising fawn Ga. I turned around and the driver was taking a leak on the fuel island!!!!! He was not a newbe, he was a o/o. this is the kind of people we have working this job. was he told about the problem? hell yes! I waited till he went in to fuel and told the fuel desk while he was standing there, along with about 15 other drivers. We have to take it on ourselves to clean this job up! as was said, no one else will do it.
