I had the Kenworth in my driveway yesterday doing some maintenance when a 10 yr old kid rides up on his bike

    Kid: That your truck?

    Six: Yep.

Kid: Sure is big. I hear they can kill people.

Six: Anything can kill you if youre stupid. Water can kill you. You will have more kids die in swimming accidents and bathtubs than semi accidents. Just dont be stupid and you better your odds.

The comment about the swimming pool and bathtub comment startled the kid.

Triplesix, great topic. Its funny how you got an argument at first, and no disrespect to our O/O friend, but this isn't about whether you're a company driver, a lease purchaser, or an O/O, it's about not throwing pee bottles into the parking lot, not emptying your ashtray in the parking lot, not wearing clothes full of holes an/or your BELLY hanging out under your shirt....showering regularly, shaving, etc.

I've seen 500 lb people who could cover up their belly with clothing, so why does a 250-300 lb truck driver think its ok to let it hang, flop, and jiggle???

And a guy like that would be the first to cry about people looking at him funny or not giving proper respect.

I, for one, will say something, or even put my hands on a guy who loses their danged mind and starts cursing out the lady at the fuel desk (ask a Werner driver what happened last year in LaPlace, LA)....I can't stand the way we're treated, and the only way to change that is to police our own actions, words, and appearances.

Takes some guts to speak up, and it takes ZERO guts to sit back and whine about respect.

Ya know you all ##### and complain. America is America. Do any of you know any GOOD stuff that you can make right in your truck?
Here is just one recipe: One can of water packed tuna, water all squeezed out. Take that tuna and combine it with some salsa to taste. Put in some mayo. You will have the leanest and most nurturing sammich ever! Want more recipes? BLOG! Have recipes for some yummy scrambled eggs too!

times have changed because most 'company' drivers go along with whatever crap the company dishes out. owner operators wont put up with that crap. we owner operators are the strikers, the complainers, the planners, the people who try to change things for the better of all.

each time we have a strike or shutdown or protest it eats me alive to see the company drivers putting on down the road ignoring us, but on the cb you can hear them complaining about the very issues we owner operators are protesting about.

thats my 2 cents from 24 years of watching the industry go down the toilet
mainly because some people wont stop the truck and join the program.

and here it comes folks- july 2010 CSA. are you ready to lose your job ?
cuz that is the intention of the government to take over

"skateboarder", "doorlammer" " o.o " or company driver, at the end of the day we are all truck drivers, no other way to look at it.. we all do the same thing, day in/day out.

I am a company driver, been one for 2 years now, plan on being a company driver for another year, then taking the leap to being an o.o by the start of 11. I do the same thing as an o.o and a flatbed driver.
no body is better then the next guy.
i hear flat bed drivers all the time.. " why dont you pull a skateboard and become a real truck driver "... seriosuly?? and im not just talking about the o/o flatbed drivers, cause yeah you o.o say it too, u cant say you dont.. i hear it from tmc drivers, prime driver and many other company drivers.. even a flat bed driver at my company ( watkin shepard ) has always said that the flat bed division of our comany is the backbone, appears our back bone needs a back brace, w.s no longer has a flatbed divison for company drivers, all o.os now...

you o.o that pull vans and refers. you all started someplace, many not 20 - 30 years ago, but in the past years you need to start off with a company to get the understanding of driving a truck, tearing up someone els equipment... one thing that makes me mad when rolling down the highway is hearing an o.o on the cb asking when all of us company drivers are going to learn our lessons and stop working for a company.. " your all stupid to work for ANY company, be smart, be a real trucker and go buy your own truck and stop working for crap" i gues he is right, but gotta start someplace.
i will, when our country is better off. i dont like hearing that on the cb coming from an o.o that i look up to, ( yes, i look up to all o.o, your sitting where i wanna be, in your OWN TRUCK ).

o,o that shut down for a strike and say something about a company driver rolling by not helping with a " strike ", trust me, if i could i would, but i dont work for myself, i work for a company i dont think they want me stopping my truck for that.

our image... yeah, its bad, we cant do anything about... and lets face it. every single one of us reading/posting on here is clean, showers regualry, dont walk around with our bellys saying peek-a-boo or our craks hanging out. we dont have coffee stains on our shirts, or holes in the crocth of our pants, or look like we just came out of the dumpster, each of us reading on here or posting on here keep our trucks clean and litter free, none of us are tossing our pee bombs in parking lots, or leaving our trash bags on the driveway, or peeing on the shippers/ recievers toilet seats or writing/carving on the walls of places we go.
the problem is that the folks giving us the bad image are not reading seeing or hearing about this, and could careless. imho having a dicussion like this is rather pointless, cause the word is not getting to the people that need to hear it!, typing on here about trying to fix our problems wont do anything, the right people are not getting the messages we are trying to send, we need our people in office to get this information directly.
yeah its great that we are typing away here for the public to see, thats great, be really, we need to get the word to right people and i dont think the right people are reading on here.
