It was actually a customer that came up with that... and they were wrong.

    It's simple.

    Maps and customer directions first.

    GPS second.

    Some can't comprehend them idea's.

I use to like hammers. Then they came out with nail guns. Sure you can shoot yourself in the hand. You learn how to use it properly, they sure are handy. The same goes with a GPS. ;)

Ok, now we're talking. After all the grief and aggravation with Rand McNally my husband and I were heading in the direction of a laptop and software in place of a single GPS unit. But neither one of us are out of our trucks long enough to really sit down and research it. He drives for a separate company and goes to NYC every day. At the end of each day we have enough time to eat and sleep and on the weekends we work on my truck getting it ready for the following week.

You just pointed us in the right direction. I am familiar with Lowrance for boating. I'm not suprised they would branch out into GPS navigation. The are the best in electronic ship navigation. I am an independent so I can't afford to lay the money out for another system. I tried to get my money back from Rand McNally to no avail. But so far they've provided me with a product that is only 5% operational. Let's hope the 4th one is the charm.

    P.S. Love your picture! WILSON!

    You're absolutely right.

    Here's the order I always go with;

-directions from someone who's been there first, then if that's not available

-directions and satellite view from google and compare to GPS directions to see which is more accurate

-if directions from google are accurate according to the satellite view I follow those and then let the GPS recalcuate to the google directions at whatever point

    and most important

-follow my instincts and completely ignore the GPS as it tells you the wrong way to go

And of course maps. Whenever I get directions in I only need the local directions. I map my way as close as possible and then go for directions from the nearest main highway and print a google map with the location and the local streets out to the main highway.

My preference is a laptop with MS Streets & Trips.

Send me your information as requested, also your E-Mail address. I will provide a shipping label to have you send me your TND. I live in NC. I will look at it along with your AC and DC cords. Fair enough?

If need be for you to get by I can provide you a TND so that you are not without one during this time. It will be a 5". This is only a temp unit and you will get your orginal 710 back.

    Thanks,
    mark

Well DUH !!! That is pretty obvious. But it doesn't address the issue of faulty connections, through wear or piss poor design.

Until I get the unit in hand, I cannot point exactly where the issue is.

    Thanks,
    Mark
