There will be no UK trucking companies left at this rate.
They already have a bad enough time competing with Eastern European companies, who have huge financial advantages, and this will just make it worse.

Even though I miss Mr T terribly, I'm kinda glad he chose to work back in the US while I'm stuck here, there is just no future or security in UK trucking right now.
(and we all know how grouchy truckers are when they are not working......!!):biggrin_25525:

Polish truck companies can run way more cheaply that English, (tax breaks and fuel prices).
Even the big English companies, like Stobart, are feeling the effect of that. I think its about a month since I last saw one of their trucks, used to see maybe half a dozen each day.
I don't recall the last time I dealt with a traffic accident that DIDN'T involve foreign drivers. Cops that I talk to (I work in ER) say they carry tranlation books for talking to truckers now.

There are allegedly one million foreign vehicles on the roads here, that don't have insurance or any kind of safety certificate.
Get hit by one of them and you are in real trouble.......
There is no way of tracing them apparently, they can break any number of traffic laws but there is no "co-operation" with any of the vehicle licensing depts in Eastern Europe to track them down.

I honestly can't recall the last time I heard English spoken out in a public place, like a store or the subway.
The old 'corner shops' at the end of the streets are all replaced by "Polski Skleps", they are a kind of Polish 7/11, selling Eastern European foods

Pickled egg and cabbage for breakfast anyone?!

    Ma dobry dzien!!
(for those of you wise folk not in "England" it means have a good day!)

    Get me out of here!!
    :smt006
only another 133 weeks to go....(sigh)
message to self ...try not to go insane ....... its temporary.......you can do this.....

oh and btw, the first street sign is about 500 yards from the Houses of Parliament, central London......

This is how it is in CA except it's Spanish the main language (press #4 for English) among others, and the food is the tamale cart and the Horchata wagon.

Diesel is priced at £ per litre, and it works out roughly $7 a gallon (using the wonderful Google converter gizmo!)
So as well as the invasion of foreign drivers, (and some of their companies run fuel tankers as well to bring their drivers the cheaper non-UK fuel), the UK companies have to deal with fuel prices way above those everywhere else!

The big guys are still around, but struggling, while the O/Os are disappearing fast....

Bring in their own fuel! You gotta hand to em, they know how to beat the system! Sounds like a real mess over there.
