When my company was open... sigh... I had two truck go to Houston with one hour difference... I asked one of the drivers to go slowly because "we are working on the next load" and said nothing to another... We used to monitor trucks via GPS.
Truck1 60 mph.
Truck2 75 mph.
Results...
Truck 2 arrived in35 minutes less time.
Truck2 still had to wait overnight for next load
Truck2 idled more and used more diesel on the way to Houston
Truck2's driver was in a foul mood because he had to wait...
So let's see, both made same amount of money for the day, one was in a good mood the other wasn't.
The way I see it, only fools think they make more money speeding, at the end of the day you'll only idle longer.
The way things are right now, drivers who can give better mpg will keep jobs, the others won't. Things are changing, the industry is is ridding it'self of the weak, good jobs will become harder to come by. For the truck owners 65 seems like a very good idea. Currently it's being considered at afederal level too... Expect speed limits to decrease for trucks pretty soon... -
You didn´t tell no2 to shut up and slow down ?

A lot of folks aren't known for sticking strictly by the letter of a log book.
A lot of folks will also average their miles, there by making most of that hr and a quarter disappear. -
I remember back in the early 90's gas was $0.99 a gallon and diesel was like $0.89 a gallon and the "Large Car's" ran. Now with the fuel the way it is everyone is slowing down. I have no choice since the company say's I can only go 67mph but it's fast enough to do the speed limit and I get paid by the hour
