Place all truck stops and fuel stops under federal control. They do such a great job running the government so running truck stops would be a piece of cake for them.

You are right. Could you tell me typically how long you spend waiting for someone to clean the shower and then once they're in there how long it takes them to clean?

Whether you are for or against paid parking I personally would like to see very aggressive towing policies implemented at truck stops. By that I mean I would like to see more people get towed for random inconsiderate parking that they do. This one include things such as:

    1. Parking in the fuel Island for an extended period of time to take a break, shower, etc.
    2. Erratic parking
    3. Parking that blocks people in or makes it difficult for others to maneuver around you.
    4. People who Park vehicles that are not semi trucks in semi truck parking for no reason.
    5. People who trash the lot or the truck stop.
    6. Abandoned trucks and trailers or at least equipment that is left in a spot for more than 48 hours without notification of local truck stop staff.

I'll probably think of more things but I just get tired of inconsiderate rubes at truck stops.

TA/Petro put the nails in the coffins when they started charging for paid parking!
Pretty soon Pilot/Flying J and some “Mom & Pop” truck stops started charging for parking as well-and it’s created one helluva mess!

A large parking lot that is entirely free parking, a nice sit down restaurant, clean restrooms and showers.

My company will reimburse me for paid parking so I am in favor of it. I know that I can usually find a parking spot at any TA/PETRO as a result. I prefer to get free parking but it just seems like the drivers who get paid parking are usually not jacked up with their equipment and parking skills. If fact it seems to me that many of the people that appear to be desperate for free parking are the kind of person who do things that make me want to see them get towed. Perhaps some of these truck stop operators are charging for paid parking trying to keep the riff raff away?

They are but at the same length it has created numerous problems, both in and out of the truck stops.
A lot of truck stops that charge for parking are jacking up the prices($15 to $30 on average)-not many drivers literally can’t afford that, especially if they don’t own the truck (some companies don’t reimburse for parking). As a result, you’ll have drivers making spots where they shouldn’t,either in the parking lot or worse,on a highway off-ramp(where it’s mostly illegal) adjacent to a truck stop. And even then the ones that are charging have a lot that’s in such poor condition (potholes especially) where a truck can possibly get damaged just driving through it!

They didn’t solve a parking problem-they literally passed it down the road!!

Truck stops are not responsible for such choices that truck drivers make. I understand the results and consequences of what you referring to but business owners need to look out for their interests and those they serve, truck drivers as well. Again poor choices can only be made by the individual irregardless of circumstances.

Well in a sense they partially are. How do you expect for your customer base to come in and spend money at your establishment when you’re nickel and dimeing them before they even get a chance to safely park?
That’s counterproductive and driving the customers away. That’s one of the reasons why TA Petro has been hemorrhaging red ink over the past year-that and their piss-poor customer service.
Meanwhile,Loves is laughing all the way to the bank!!
