Just because they have used drugs?
What if they're not under the influence at the time they're tested?
Where is the harm of having USED a drug, if they're not under the influence of drug(s) while performing their duties?
It sure isn't funny. Neither is being fired for using pot on one's time off --- weeks ago, and no longer under the influence.
Overkill?
I think so.
More like the gubmint tryin' to keep us under their thumb(s)
It's doesn't seem to matter what you, or others think is fair. The gubmint deems it so and dictates the rules for us to follow --- along with the insurance carriers who have been spooked by gubmint misinformation.
The facts and the truth are out there, IF they're interested in learning.
Labeled --- guilt by understanding the TRUTH of the matter.
Meanwhile, those who pass laws demanding that WE be tested, also demand that THEY not be tested.
Why?
Invasion of THEIR privacy without due cause.
Go figure.
IMO, if ANYone in a position to potentially harm others while performing their duties and exhibits odd behavior, as in possibly under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, --- by golly --- TEST 'em post haste.
Otherwise, leave 'em alone.
What's next?
Sexual practices and/or preferences?
Goin' through our trash at the curb, lookin'
for beer bottles?
You MIGHT be is the same as you ARE?

I completed a sap program cost a lot of money. results are have fun finding a company to hire you. I have passed several drug test since. Most companies tell me 3 years 10 years or not at all, no tolerance. In short sap programs are BS and don't do anything but take your money. If any body knows of a decent company renegade or other please let me know. Thanks

As drivers our rights are violated daily.
Complaining about it here doesn't change a thing. Start writing to congress, I can't do this by myself.
I don't do drugs. Never have, never will. But at the very minimum companies should be required to pay us for the time taken to drop what we're doing and drug test.. That's at the minimum. If they want us to jump through hoops, fine, we should be compensated for it.
There are far too many intelligent people out there driving trucks. We're not all the dumb hicks that the government makes us out to be, if we stand up and start writing some of this very constructive, well thought out information in letters to congress or other various government agencies we will be heard, not until then. These people have 'more important' things to do than to google what we think, we have to take it to them, and only then will they care.. IF then, but after a while they will have to wake up. -
It's not an invasion of your privacy to make you take a drug test. You are performing a safety sensitive job that is a privledge. You don't have to do it, you can work somewhere else that doesn't require drug testing.
There is no way around it, if you're a truck driver you will be drug tested. -
i failed a drug test 2years ago and went through the sap program shortly after and paid for out of my own pocket and still cant find a OTR driving job..any suggestion as far as what companies willing to give a 2nd chance?

I wish I had better news for you, but a drug conviction is a death sentence for a Commercial Driver's License. If a truckin' company seems interested in giving drivers a second chance, the real reason is likely to be their desire to get the first chance to royally ream 'em because they know their drivers have few, if any, choice(s). A captive audience, if you will. Complaints fall on deaf ears.
YeS!
Absolutely YeS.
Saying nothing is interpreted as acceptance.
Do you accept that you've been lied to by our government for no other reason than to protect the assets of a wealthy and influential businessman? Are you willing to accept that, as a direct result of the lies, thousands upon thousands of citizens have been convicted of a crime based on known lies and sentenced to prison for reasons that have now been proven to be untrue. Had our government allowed research on marijuana, that fact would have been discovered. Other countries weren't as closed-minded though, thankfully. Not only did the research in other countries expose the truth, they demonstrated that the fears of what terrible things would happen if marijuana were legal is pure, unadulterated bovine excrement, --- which I'm sure our government already knew.
It's now known that marijuana is beneficial, medically. Patients are now discovering that the effects of ingesting the active ingredients in marijuana can provide relief, and a better quality of life. How many millions of people COULD have been helped during an illness, but were denied, --- based on a collection of lies and made-up stories from those who were elected to, among other things, protect the rights of American citizens? Would you consider protecting the profits of one very wealthy businessman at the expense of the citizens, a worthwhile reason?
Our government owes us all an explanation. What they did was as wrong as wrong can be. All those years, lying to us, convicting us of crimes less serious than the punishment, denying medical processes that would have eased the suffering of many patients., --- all for what?
Profit?
What was/is our government afraid of, ..... or trying to hide?
Funny thing is, after all the untruths spread by the government about the "devil weed", and their vow to protect us from ourselves by outlawing a substance, by providing false information about the effects from ingesting marijuana, spending billions of tax dollars to support a war on drugs that requires more and more tax dollars every year, with no end in sight, and some folks believed what they were bein' told. Many still do, which I think is odd, now that the truth is out and the lies exposed.
It'll be interesting to see how the government reverses their spin on marijuana, now that the economy is in the tank. How will they convince those who believed the pot is bad story, to forget what they were told? How and why did the government suddenly decide to change course?
Well, ......... when things don't seem to make sense, -------
Follow the Money Trail.
Considering that there's billions of potential tax dollars to be tapped that could go a long ways toward balancing an out of whack budget, and a promising growth industry needing employees, thereby helping to stabilize the economy and turn the recession around, might be a clue.
Who would have ever thought it possible that marijuana would, some day, be responsible for providing what's necessary to reverse our downward spiral? Not to mention, when legalized, it would help eliminate the problem of over crowded prisons, and clear court calendars for more important cases, like jaywalking.
Go figure.
I'm thinkin' ol' Frank knew this would happen, -------
