Saying that he would not spend his final term in office “pretending that all is fine,” Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg made a series of Earth Day proposals this afternoon to improve the environment of New York City, including charging a new congestion fee to drivers who come into parts of Manhattan during peak hours during weekdays.

The proposal that is sure to attract the most attention, and possibly objections, is one to impose the $8 fee on car drivers, and $21 for truck operators, to drive in Manhattan south of 86th Street.

As if going there wasnt expensive and annoying enough, you can pay even more money if this was to ever pass.

Supposedly, this has nothing to do with the money. For cars, it is to get people to reconsider whether they need to go into Manhattan or not.

For trucks, it is to convince trucking companies and shippers/receivers to plan their pickups and deliveries for overight hours.

Yeah, that's what I want to do. Make a delivery in the middle of the night in Manhattan and have absolutely nowhere to go to sleep afterwards..

    This is ignorant.

Thats needs to be passed on to the company, or the shipper. Or, ppl need to stop delivering to NY.

That would be my option. When States/Cities want to impose these types of laws, this is the best way to make them realize just how stupid it is.

Why south of 86th St? What's the significance there?

Saddly there isn't enough drivers that will stand up that will make a difference or big companies will just send in a young driver that don't care because s/he doesn't have to pay because the company will cover it.
