Hello ALL
Just wondering why all companies don't have APU'S and Inverters on their trucks since they all say they care about their drivers?
They want the drivers out on the road as much as possible wouldn't having them make it more comfortable for drivers with a fridge and microwave,TV,Laptop?
The drivers could eat better and save money too? and have some comforts of home, it would help to ease some of the pain of being away from home yes or no?![]()

APUs are very expensive.
Many companies don't really care anyway. Just because they say they care doesn't mean anything -
What they say and do are 2 different things.Caring about dirvers is one of a million different lines they use to bring in the drivers.Werner's slogan is (we care Werner cares)if that's so then why do they have one of the highest turnover rates in the industry. They along with every other starter company don't care anymore then the man on the moon does. Now the companies that require exp some do have all that stuff except microwave.None will provide the laptop or tv though.
-
Some companies do provide Sat TV now.
Anyway, don't get any of that STUFF confused with CARING about YOU. (the Driver). -
I was just wondering I am about to go to Swift CDL training school and found out they only allow the cigarette plug type inverter which wont run a fridge or microwave i think? just would be less stress for eating and down town i thought if you could have and use those items?
-
Yes, Swift will 'overlook' plug-in inverters, but they are not really an approved item.
That limits you to 150W of power, which is plenty for a laptop or small TV, AC chargers... (A laptop with a USB TV tuner is good for saving space on a separate TV.)
You don't really need a fridge because there are some very good 12V coolers that are nearly as good. I use the Coleman and it keeps things cold enough, although they are not as effective in the very high heat situations. An upgraded fan can help, though.
I also use a 12V lunchbox oven to cook good meals with.
Tonight I'm making baked chicken breast with Rice-a-Roni and asparagus. YUM!
After you have been driving awhile you could get on with another company that has more perks, or buy/lease a truck so you can add a few things.
Until then you may have to be happy with being a bit more patient and creative.Chinatown, JOHNQPUBLIC and antoinefinch Thank this. -
How about findin a different company, and dont ask why either.

I am going to work for Pride Transport in March, most of their trucks have a fridge and all have satellite WITH a 20 inch TV. Just sayin (I have been up there and seen the trucks first hand)
