Prohibiting idling will save money but lose good drivers. Think of all the money they lose when a driver quits because they can't sleep in a hot/cold truck. The hiring process costs money, recovering an abandoned truck costs even more.

When fleets buy in bulk they won't be paying full retail price and when the trucks are sold there will be a higher resale value for an APU equipped truck. So they aren't "losing" $10K.

Are you serious? An APU will pay for itself in less than a year. Saving money on wear and tear, fuel, longer on oil changes, driver retention, resale, keeping the engine block warm, etc. dude. Stop. Now. You're really showing your ignorance here.

Seriously? That's one hell of an expensive recruiting gimmick. Ridiculous.

An APU is an investment. For some it makes financial sense, for others it doesn't. Where you run, how much off time the drivers spend in the truck, how long you keep the trucks and other considerations come into play.
