Darn !!! I hate slow trucks !!! I agree that it almost makes no difference in MPGs' Actually I think that fuel consumption in lardge motors with big rear ends is affected by this in a negative way. Those motors have to "lug" to run

I'm also at Prime. Company driver. 2008 Freightliner Century with 58mph on the pedal, 62 cruise. I usually roll at 55 - 58mph. Fuel mileage 7 - 8mpg depending on load, terrain, wind, etc. Rarely falls below 7.

The slow speed doesn't bother me in the slightest. If you drive 70 all the time, you get used to that speed and driving through Oklahoma at 2am is just as boring as if you were doing 55. Your body just gets used to it. I simply crank up the tunes, this time of year open a window, chew on a toothpick, take in the sights, and enjoy the fuel bonus I get each week.

I also don't understand why some guys cruise right at their governor. They are the ones who end up blocking the hammer lane for all the 4-wheelers and faster trucks. People need to learn to drive a few mph under their governor so that if they do need to pass, they've got something left to get around. Going 3mph slower will set you back 30 minutes in a 10hr day, assuming no delays, stops, or anything else. It'll save you and everyone else a ton of aggravation though, not to mention the fuel savings.

And why is it that when I'm going 55mph, I get passed by the same exact truck 3 or 4 times in my day?

    ....but I digress

I think it's that fool who hangs out in the State Capitol (or Capital)... in CA, it's "The Terminator" (I don't mind his movies, but as a Governor he sucks---thank goodness for term limits).

What kinda terrain are you running on? All downhill, I can't shift mine at 900 and get anywhere, and I'm geared way lower than you. I run a 475hp Detroit, 13spd, 4:33 rear end, I get 6-6.5. I spend most of my time crawling around in the woods at slow speeds.:biggrin_25525:
