Where does he live in TN? There's tons of companies in TN that will hire newbies. I've seen it with my own eyes. The key is to go to the company in person, be very clean cut, present yourself well, clean language, and if you have tattoo's like I do, wear a nice long sleeved shirt with nice slacks. One place I worked told me, "you're one of our best drivers, but if I'd have seen the tattoo's I couldn't have hired you." Worked there 15 years. Anyway, try some of the companies that aren't trucking companies, but have their own trucks for their own use. Also try rent-a driver companies get your foot in the door. Try grocery companies. Look at driveforgreatwide.com, one of their terminals near Nashville and haul dedicated, and good chance to be home every night or close to it. There's a vinegar company near Crossville that may still have their own trucks. JB Hunt has a terminal in Gallatin that hauls dedicated for a company there. Another good company is Armour in Mt. Pleasant, that hauls waste water, etc. I'll shut up now. Best wishes.

Not all truck drivers want Regional w/ hometime each weekend. I am a newbie, and just asked the company I got hired by if they have a Regional option. I was told yes, and I can sign up for it right out of training. This is also a company that does not hire students, unless they are from one school (the one I graduated from). After regional, home on the weekends (about a year) I can sign up for their local service-- I will make less money, but it is home every night, and weekends.

Can you please share what the names of the these companies are? If you don't want to reveal who you work for I understand. Which company only hires from one school, and what school is it. I would really like to know.

Wherever you live , get out and knock on some doors, put in the effort to spend some time and shoe leather actually talking to folks face to face...best way in the world to get a good job. "old School" , but still true...and still the best way...Even with little experience , you will be surprised at the doors that might be open to you...like Chinatown says...go in looking neat , clean and not like the stereotypical trucker....be nice , respectful and most important of all HONEST...ignore the signs and people that tell you'll you must have 2 years or more experience...apply ( in person ) to any and all that will let you fill out an ap. You may get 100 no's for your effort...but the 101st might be from a company that you can spend your entire career at...
