OK, again, I didn't read 4 pages of comments but I did read the first page. So based on those questions, answers & comments, here's my take.

I work for a company that governs my truck at 73 & I get raises, every couple of years but I get more than decent raises, so I don't ask for a raise every year. When I do ask, I get it. Cause I don't run over stuff & I don't get violations & cost them money otherwise... and, I am dependable & treat them like they treat me... no hassle environment.
So, for you guys who say that fuel consumption keeps you from getting a raise... no, not true. Your boss's pockets & his selfishness along with his inability to manage his company, keeps you from getting a raise.

As for the question asking, "why?", why run 70+? Cause most of the naked ladies are going 70+, that's why.

As for those defending slower speeds = less fuel. I can make the argument that faster you go, the faster you get there so less fuel you use... or less time you're using fuel... therefore saving fuel in a set time.
So, going 70 mph = 5 mpg & 65 mph = 6 mpg... I'm getting there 5 mph faster so I'm not using as much fuel or at least for as long. Therefore, equal or less fuel/cost in my theory.
So, you say this sounds stupid? Your theory that speed = less pay is just as silly to me. I'm going faster than you & I get probably as good of raises as you.

Now factor in the amount of loads that you loose every year compared to me & lets see who makes more money. Your management is figuring profit on a "per load basis", not overall per year basis. You maybe saving $100 on these two loads you made this week, But I am picking up another $1000 load over you. That's $700 gross over your two loads any week you wanna figure it.
I know, I know, you're saying if that were true that your management would be doing that. Nope... refer to the underlined & italicized statement above ^^^^.

After all is said & done, I make good money, go faster & see more naked ladies than you.

No Grumpy your wrong. A 1000 milet trip driving 70mph takes 14.5 hours. At 65mph it takes 15.5 hours. It' gonna take you 3.5 months before you get in 1 more trip than the slower truck. In the mean time 1000÷7=143 gallons of fuel. 1000÷5.5=182 gallons. A difference of 39 gallons per thousand. At 100,000 miles per year thats 3896 gallons. Ot $3per gallon $11,688. That is appx half a years truck payment. Now full disclosure I personally drive 67-72. But it' my truck and my choice. I just wanted to correct your math.
