Do you mean like driving under the influence of a narcotic or something?

Why is it that everyone seems to think they will be able to get a job driving a truck even though they have a less-than-perfect MVR? NO company will hire you with a recent controlled substance violation on your MVR...most require AT LEAST 10 years if they allow any at all. FEW companies will hire you if you have a lot of crashes or citations on your MVR.
When your job is to drive, a clean MVR is vital. The more bad marks on your MVR, the less desirable you are to potential employers. Even if you DO manage to find a carrier that will hire you, you have to wonder WHY they are so lax on their hiring standards. Likely, it is because they treat their employees so terribly (low pay, crap equipment, long hours, poor working conditions, etc.) that no driver who is eligible for hire anywhere else would ever WANT to work for them.
The carrier isn't always the one rejecting a potential employee. Every carrier is mandated to carry a certain level of insurance. If the company's insurance provider refuses to cover you, guess what...you are not going to be hired. Having blemishes on your MVR is a good reason for an insurance company to refuse to cover you...the more severe the blemish, the more likely the rejection.
Just because you WANT to drive a truck doesn't mean you will actually GET to drive one...especially if your MVR doesn't meet the prerequisite qualifications for hire. If your blemished MVR was citations or crashes, I'd say give it some time...keep your nose clean...and try again in a couple years when the blemishes fall off your record. However, with a controlled substance violation on there, it's best you seek another career.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
I now declare you like "Pre-Hired" .

Understand that I get the idea of second chances, and the fact that everybody screws up once in a while. However, trucking is very unforgiving. Any controlled substance charge will pretty much keep you out of the decent jobs permanently. Good companies will not take the chance on a questionable driver (even if it was only once) taking over $100,000 of equipment plus possibly more than $1,000,000 of cargo anywhere. Not saying you won't be able to find any work at all, in a few years. Just saying that the good jobs are gonna be out of reach for you. It sucks, I know. But that's the way it is.

Don't know if they will hire you but there is a company called cre or something like that they are local day cabs haul debris I think. I've seen them run to charleston and charlotte areas I delivered a load next door to them a few weeks ago and saw the sign. Going north on 77 take exit 2 turn left go about a mile or two you will see some old ware houses and some rail road traks that go under the road you are on it is a fairly new road with concrete barriers on the side turn right there and they will be on the left about a mile up. This may sound confusing but if you do it it is very simple. Maybe you can look them up or look for their trucks on the road. I see them all the tine, white trucks with black trailers red and blue writing. Looks like decent trucks. Hope this helps.
