Good morning, I’m a truck driver contracted to a trucking company that has an office in the Chicago area. The accounting dept., safety & dispatchers are in Serbia. I leased a truck from this company and the lease was to be completed March 31, 2023. This company deducts my truck payment weekly out of my settlement, but they’re pausing my last truck payment due to repairs I owe them. I’ve tried all last year to work out a payment plan to get this settled, but they wouldn’t agree to it like we agreed to and done in early 2022. Here we are in 2024, instead the arrearages going down, it’s now up to just under $30000.00. I spoke with this new guy, that’s supposed to be the head manager 3.5 weeks ago and offered to pay up to $1500 a week, he said No, instead he wants me to work all week, make thousands of dollars in revenue and ONLY receive $1000 for a paycheck. I disagreed with him, and the following Thursday I received my settlement that I was expecting over $4000, they took my whole check. Since then, they’ve GIVEN me $1000 for settlement, and $100. I need some help!!

That is traditionally how a lease works anywhere. They deduct the money upfront and sometimes that leaves a driver in the negative. They are definitely not going to agree to that now that you've paid off the truck, because you could go anywhere with the truck and leave them in the red. They agreed to it while you were paying on the truck because they could always get the truck back. Now they have no leverage other than to get it out of your settlement. While you're leased there, you'll be working for peanuts til you pay that off. This is where lease purchase messes with people. When you don't have any capital, you run unto these issues.

Two years ago you had repairs done you couldn’t pay for and kept driving the truck for nearly a year after it was supposed to be paid off? Where did the money go from March 2023 to now if you didn’t have a truck payment and weren’t paying them back for repairs?
