I'm having similar trouble, but in my case I don't think it's anything really on my record, it's just bad timing - a lot of jobs in the sector I want (fuel hauling) want someone 23 or older...which means I gotta wait 2 months to turn 23 before even being able to apply. Other than that, clean record and all my ducks are in a row - I would say that's a factor too. Couldn't imagine being a new guy getting into it though, it's a rough market in general.

I know a guy that just turned 20 when he completed the CDL class at the local community college.
He got hired right out of the class by a local heavy haul outfit , and was doing in state oversize loads before he turned 21.

I find it interesting how simultaneously there is a claimed driver shortage along with a shortage of parking.
I think that the notion of a driver shortage is nonsense, in my opinion it is merely a recruiting tool primarily for the mega carriers to get more people on board to haul freight for cheap for them.tscottme Thanks this. -

There is not now, and there has never been a driver shortage. Maybe a shortage of quality drivers. But with over 400,000 new CDLs issued every year, how can there be a shortage? The megas have an annual turnover of 80 to 100 percent so they have a retention issue.

The driver shortage issue depends on who you ask. Oversize megas, they will say yes. Small fleets and owner ops will say no. I'd probably guess there isn't a shortage in driversnthat bump docks, but I could imagine a shortage in specialized hauling, tanker, or flatbed. I only thought flatbed because when I started driving at Western Express, majority of folks in orientation wanted dry van. Many of them had to wait on trucks. Those flatbed didn't.
