There is a Dana plant in Owensboro , KY that makes the frames for Tundras . They already laid off the second shift . First shift will lose their jobs when Toyota shifts all Tundra production to Texas .

Chuck Taylor wrote an Opinion column in the 7/21/08 Transport Topics. Mr. Taylor believes that Toyota may be the only large company that learned from the 1973 oil embargo. Toyota started their "Lean" Production System in this period. As is affects transportation, Lean requires that facilities be located as close to suppliers and customers as possible. Of course, in the real world all transportation can not be eliminated.

Mr. Taylor believes the rush to globalization will slow dramatically in the peak oil world. The 12,000-mile supply chain linking the U.S. and Asia is fast becoming obsolete.
