I disagree, having multiple buying options allows customer to find best price and availability. Finding parts for transmissions or brakes is easier, multiple options are available. I have had parts salesmen multiple times sell parts @ cost just to beat the guy across the street to the sale.

Sometimes I do, and it's only overnight shipping if you are based in huge country of Netherlands.
I had a recent breakdown of one of Dafs in Manchester, ECU died (trucks has only 630k km, everyone told me it's normal, just Daf things). Took them 4 working days to replace computer. This is the reality. Owh, and it was 4 days via ITS, normaly I was told it will take 1,5 weeks, since they are busy, and computer needs to be shipped from Eindohven.pushbroom, Cat sdp and spsauerland Thank this. -
Lots of things can be gotten elsewhere, but not everything……
After a while you learn what to prebuy and have your own parts on hand……
PS overnight charges will kill you. $70-100 and up…….a now with the covid excuse all kinds of crazy stuff is back ordered.Last edited: Jul 8, 2021
spsauerland Thanks this. -
Of all manufacturers I have dealt with to get parts, one stands above the rest in parts availability. Not the cheapest, but downtime is expensive. Their logistics system is amazing. It's Caterpillar. I understand the reasons, but I sure wish they would have stayed in the on-highway truck engine market.

From Scania technician to technical haulier director (with a sparkle in the eye)
Trucker Lasse Pedersen was until a few years ago Scania technician at Stiholt in Thisted, but now he is a haulier just like his father Henning. Together, they run the haulier business Henning Pedersen A / S in Thisted, and with his background as a Scania technician, Lasse calls himself fun for technical director in the hauler business.
Henning Pedersen A / S did not long ago deliver a brand new Scania R 530 B7x4 in XT execution (extra hard model for contractor driving) by Stiholt in Thisted, so they now have two Scania. In addition to the new one Henning is driving, they also have a good three year old G 500 8 x4 also in XT execution, which Lasse is driving. And as brothers..., well no, like father and son... they share both a 3-axle tip cart and a removable, rear-mounted Fassi 31 t / m crane adapted to both cars.
- We drive very much locally with containers, tip-and crane driving and the world's mixed driving with sand, gravel, harped mulch soil etc. Both cars have been built quite the same with Meiller hookhejs at Fyns Bodyworkyg (FKB) in Odense, so we can do the same tasks and also help each other with all types of tasks, says Lasse Pedersen. The choice of hookhejs is based on really good experiences with the Meiller hoist on the bottom solid G 500.
- We are still really happy about the 4-axle G 500, including the fuel economy too, so it was obvious to expand with one more of the same kind. ′′ The old one ′′ (Henning ) however insisted on a V8 and due to the latest update incl. the ten extra horsepower from 520 to 530 we could almost achieve the same weight and load capacity thanks to the weight loss on the new model, adds Lasse.
Contributing to the choice of the updated model was also the opportunity to get the new Scania G33CM gearbox, which, in addition to lower weight, also excels at four reverse reverse, enabling the R 530 to run around. 30 km / h - backwards! In fact, G33 comes with eight reverse and a backwards top speed of over 50 km / h, but Lasse thought it was too much of the good.
- We have many tasks where it is a clear advantage to be able to back quickly. This applies to both villa, field roads and other places where we cannot turn at the end of the road, explains Lasse.
Despite - or perhaps rather because of - his background as an educated Scania technician (and self-appointed technical director) Lasse has chosen to draw a 10-year service agreement incl. driveline +- coverage.
- It's not that I doubt Scania's quality, but you sleep so well at night when you are secured from unpleasant surprises, Lasse ends.
By the way, it's truck salesman Lars Pedersen (who despite the last name is not related to Lasse and Henning Pedersen) who delivered the new car.
