Hey guys, I've been out of the industry for a few years now and have been struggling to find a job due to a lack of recent experience and the fact that prior to quitting I only had about 8 months commercial driving experience.
Applied with a local company and have been in touch with them. Home daily, M-F, hauling blasting sand locally. Driver's average about $600/week after taxes which I know isn't a TON, but you really can't put a price on home daily.
Anyways, they want to interview me and show me around tomorrow. One of the managers I've been speaking to told me not to dress up or anything and that they have a pretty lax dresscode, but I still want to look presentable so I'm kind of mixed on what I should wear. I don't want to wear full casual clothes, but I don't think a full suit, tie and dress shoes would really be appropriate either.
I'm thinking just a nice pair of jeans, buttoned shirt tucked in with a tie, and some clean boots. Thoughts?

I would skip the tie. A good pair of jeans, a belt, a nice polo shirt, and a shave/haircut should do you fine. Sounds like they really want to show you their operations, so I'd take some PPE with just in case, gloves, hardhat, glasses, high-vis vest and make sure your boots are steel toe. Can't hurt to be prepared.

No tie. A nice, clean work shirt. Look like you are ready to be assigned a truck and start your pretrip. Jeans are a good choice. Boots are a good choice.

Look at how other drivers dress when you interview. If you get the job dress as they do, but a notch above. That should be a good rule of thumb.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
I would go with kaki pants and button shirt/Polo......or pajama pants and tshirt, depending on how much you want to job. Just remember that not only do you have to impress your potential employer, you also have to impress their customers.

I've always worn some slacks with a casual looking tucked in button down shirt and a pair of CLEAN work boots.

Sweatpants, flipflops, and maybe some fresh mustard stains on a wifebeater. Don't forget to reject bathing for at least a week. Do that, and you can be a supertrucker within a month. Just sign this lease purchase agreement....
