Sigh, another one of these threads. If you hate what youre doing and am just in it for the money, of course youre gonna see it from this point of view. "I could make more flippin burgers". Well go flip 'em and have fun spending your life in the back of a kitchen isolated from the world.
I might make 4.16/hr, but Im doing what I love and am making good money too! (Guess which point of view I have?-the same one as blackW900)
I feel bad for everyone who thinks like you. Must be pretty miserable.

    Not true,.....

Last I knew Wal-Mart private fleet drivers get $25.00 sleeper berth pay for spending a 10 hour break in the truck,.....

    It's quite a bit more than $25.00.

Now now, no need to get hostile for me making light of the OP. Poking fun at the fact that was all I made at CR england for 12 weeks I was in their trucks. But it did have other wonderful amenities, free heat, trainers with interesting attitudes, recruiters with even more interesting stories and dialect that leads on to believe they care (best joke of all), trainers that steal your clothing (where and why my pants left I dont understand, they wont fit him), trainers that in their sleep shout out things so it seems like they are paying attention and they are not. Yes indeed, the life of a trucker as a trainee is a interesting thing. At least at CR I got paid what I was due. LOL

It's all about you get what you pay for . Bottom feeders pay low rtes and that's why they resort to hiring dime a dozen trainees . The CDL mills have made newbies an expendable commodity . There's always fresh meat so they have a take it or leave it attitude .
The best shippers pay good rates to get things like hazmat and oversize loads moved by professionals . Those are the drivers that get top pay and get paid detention time and don't sit days waiting for loads .
Newbies did it to themselves and the more of them that run to CDL mills the less they are worth . Don't get in trucking expecting to even make enough to support a family . The miles aren't there . Why do you think so many thousands of wannabes go through orientation every year ? Easily over 80% will quit within a month or two and be replaced by another that won't last any longer . The bottom feeders love holding newbies at trainee pay for a couple of months . The trainers love getting over $1200 a week while the trainee doesn't get near half that doing the same amount of work .

Yes, I get paid for every hour of the day that I work minus 1/2 hour for lunch.
No, I do not get paid at night because I park the truck at the terminal and go home.
If I lived in my work vehicle, I would expect some sort of compensation for being on the job 24/7 and not able to go home.
Maybe not paid for every hour of my 10-hour break but there should at least be a little something for the effort.
As was mentioned, Wal-Mart private fleet drivers get paid for their 10-hour breaks.

    It's like layover pay.
Some OTR outfits (used to be most) would pay you if you sat past 24 hours and were available for dispatch.
Most pay(ed) a lump-sum, but some would put you on the clock for every hour until you were dispatched on a load.

Now wait a second here, layover pay is being paid to sleep, eat, and watch TV...I bet you guys turn that money down right? :biggrin_2559:
Detention pay after 2 hours...paid to sleep, eat, and watch TV...I guess you refuse detention pay then, too right? :biggrin_2559:
    Same with breakdown pay? :biggrin_2559:

LOL...you OTR guys crack me up.
Never seen a bunch who argue so much against getting paid for their time.
No wonder this industry is way beyond hopeless...
