Feds Ban Truckers, Bus Drivers From Using Chantix
5/27/08
WASHINGTON (CBS 11 News) - Truckers and bus drivers will be unable to sit behind the wheel if they are using the drug Chantix.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced that the use of the anti-smoking pill may adversely affect a driver's ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle.
Last Wednesday the FAA banned the use of Chantix among pilots and air traffic controllers.
The U.S. Food and Drug administration recently issued a public health advisory on Chantix after a series of CBS 11 reports on the drug's serious side effects, including violent behavior and suicidal thoughts.

They should do it as I did smoked for 21 years 2 packs a day at least menthol, quit cold turkey was sick for almost 3 weeks, have stayed away from them now for almost 3 years . But as I have heard others say,if I found out that I had a terminal disease of some form , I would start up again immediately!!! I got tired of the chronic bronchitis I suffered from, doctor told me my bronchioles are completely shot, I would get a cold and within 2-3 days it would set in.Since quiting, I have only had it 1 time, and I hardly ever get sick at all anymore, better find some wood quick!!!
RedSkys Thanks this. -

I heard today about this and thought I would share. I don't know any more than what the FMCSA list below tells you
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) regulations for the medical qualification of interstate truck and bus drivers prohibit the use of prescribed substances or drugs that adversely affect the driver's ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves medications for use, and has recently issued a public health advisory on Chantix (Varenicline). FMCSA's rules defer to the physicians and health care professionals to determine driver medical fitness for duty, which includes when a medication has actual and potential side effects that could impact safe driving.
While we do not name any medications, such as Chantix, in FMCSA regulations, it appears that medical examiners should not certify a driver taking Chantix because the medication may adversely affect the driver's ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle.
We are committed to ensuring safety on America's highways and we will continue our ongoing effort to review all FMCSA medical standards, including prescription drugs.
So much for drivers quitting smoking the easy way anyhow. Sorry

My father-in-law took this but did act a little odd, it did work though. Wonder what effect it has while driving? Husband tried Welbutrin but said it slowed him down, didn't like it!
Funny part is, when someone would ask my mother-in-law how father-in-law quit smoking, she kept telling them Cealis (the e.d. pill ) instead of Chantix.. toooooo funny the looks she got!!!! and him for that matter!!! -
