What does anyone know about Career Trucking School, who apparently gives the courses for Collin College in Plano, TX? Obviously, this is my local community college, and I'll need to get financial aid and such. But I can't find much info on the outfit that is actually doing the training, so any info is appreciated.
Thanks, and happy new year!

Bump... someone's gotta know something about these people!

Hey I actually just completed that school. The class meets at the Mckinney Center of Higher education for collin college. I'm pretty satisfied with what I got from them. The instructor Charlie is an old school trucker who has 40+ years experience. He'll cuss you out and give you a hard time, but that's just his sense of humor some people are ok with it and some people aren't so just know that up front. Charlie is a really good guy he'll keep working with you till your ready to take the test. When you take the test is up to Charlie, because he won't send you up there to fail. If he thinks you need more work he'll keep you back and have you come in when he starts teaching the next class to give you more road time till he thinks your good enough. I paid $4250 out of pocket and while it was expensive I thought it was worth it, because it's not like some other schools where when it's the last day and you fail they kick you to the curb, Charlie will keep working with you and bring you in for extra drive time till he feels confident putting you on the road. I'm applying for jobs right now and on the last day Charlie told us to call him up if we think we need a little refresher before we take a company road test so that our skills aren't too rusty. let me know of any other questions and I'll do my best to get back with ya

Excellent, thanks for that, it's my most convenient option, and I'd like it to be my best.

not a problem if you do end up going tell him Sami says Hey! you can't really go wrong with em after reading all the horror stories of company schools and such and witnessing some company school drivers first hand this is really the way to go if you want to get properly trained. It's not hard to learn, I've never driven a stick in my life, but now I can upshift and downshift very smoothly. It's also nice knowing that if you need extra time driving they're give it to you. One guy in my class wasn't picking it up fast enough so after a bit charlie told him to just join up with the next class because he wasn't ready to take the test with us, that way he could get more drive time and not lose confidence by failing the road badly.

Very good to hear, thank you.
Now the next question: is this one of the schools that's "accepted" by the trucking companies? -
Lux Prometheus and abdersj, Thanks for enlightening me with your knowledge. I am looking to try out trucking as a hobby (and potentially career). I am 29 years old and have experience of driving stick shift in cars. Being in the Plano/Frisco area, the course offered by Collin College is probably the closest to me by distance. Abdersj, can you chime in on your how your placement after attending the training offered by Collin College went. Abdserj, Lux Prometheus, did you end up taking the course ? What's your feedback on the course itself and the placement following it. I will prefer a local 9-5 (or 6am-3pm or anything that gets me home at night as having a family with kids) job if that is even a possibility.
Thanks in advance for your support. Best of Luck in life ahead !!! -
FYI I have asked Con-Way truckload if they accept this school and they (Keturah - recruiter) said yes
