Hi, I've been trying to break into trucking for awhile now. Recently started going to a trucking school, but this school was gonna charge me $6,000. I got another school that I contacted that told me I was eligible for a grant and I could go there for basically nothing. So I left that first school, now they are saying they wont release me from the secretary of state's system until I pay them for my drug tests & physical. What's that mean? Can they block me from getting my CDL? I'm confused.

Did you do a drug test and physical when you were there? You must have signed something when you started that school. What does it say about this?
If you owe for these things you should pay up and get on down the road with you trucking career.

    WHAT state are you in?

If it is Michigan, go get another physical. They have NOTHING to do with the SoS.

Yeah, I did a hair follicle test and DOT test.
Yeah, I did a hair follicle test and DOT test. Signed a couple things but nothing says anything about them holding me back from getting my CDL. Not sure if it's just scare tactics to get me to pay??? Because I was planning on it. Just didnt want it to stop me from getting my CDL.

That what I thought. I mean I was planning on paying, but just didnt want it to stop me from getting my CDL. My first thought was it had to be a scare tactic to get me to pay up.

I do not think in any state a company has any connection with the dmv/SoS/licensing for any drivers license or CDL. I think it is bad that these companies make these claims, they can't hold your license or your cdl up with any claim like this, I would tell them to stick it and report them to the state.

I think the first school is talking about holding up the grant, not the license.

yup, sounds like this is what they’re doing. Op you used their services, you have to pay for them. All in this is less than a couple hundred dollars. Pay them and move on. You’re lucky they don’t want their 6 grand back. Lots of threads on here of people who quit school only to recieve that big bill in the mail!

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

Pay for the drug test & physical. Most contracts don't have a "I got better deal, so ignore my prior agreement" clause.
