OK maybe ... but still makes no sense, there is no obligation for the state to give the grant to one school then holding it up by a claim of another school saying he is already committed.

Or did I miss that he used the grant at the first school?

How much was the drug test and physical? A hundred bucks?

It could also be a bluff by the first school, but my guess is the first school knows the system and who to call to hold up processing of the grant. We are talkinh about Illinois here.

No, its nothing to do with a grant. I didnt even tell them I had a grant with the 2nd school. They specifically said I must pay the 1st school what I owe before they will release me from the secretary of states system. I have no idea what they meant by that and had no knowledge they could do anything like that. But yeah, the contract was with Swift. I read the contract before I signed it and wasnt gonna leave if I had to be on the line for $6,000. Contract specifically says that Swift only agrees to pay the amount if driver obtains CDL and becomes coded as a Swift driver. So I was never obligated to pay back $6,000. Just my fees for drug test and physical. School makes me pay $100 for going to class so they at least make something. But found it shocking they would even act like they could hold up my CDL. Planning on going to either TMC or Maverick. Besides, didnt really want to go to Swift anyways.

10-4. Like I said, that's the plan driver. Was just confused and wanted to know if they could hold me back at the SOS. Because I'm supposed to go back to class in 2 weeks. That's all. Thanks.

You can train right there in Illinois with FFE (Frozen Food Express) which sends you to school in Chicago Heights to Prairie State College.
As for Maverick, I don't think Illinois recognizes their cdl training and won't give you an Illinois cdl. Maybe that's changed, I don't know.

Yeah I ignored the Illinois thing because it gets tiring trying to come to a reasonable conclusion why the people allow it to happen.

But that said, I have a problem with any grant to give people a cdl because many of them don't last in the industry.

They are not trying to hold you back from getting your CDL. They are trying to get compensated for having paid for your drug test and DOT physical, which would have gotten covered when you paid the tuition and attended their school. Since you did not pay the tuition and attend their school, they want paid for what they had invested in you. They can not keep you from attending a different school and getting your CDL. They can sue you in small claims court and screw up your credit rating, which could affect your ability to find employment after you get your CDL. Pay the first school what you owe them and move on.
