Night shift at McDonalds pays $16.50 an hour now.
Would you like fries with that?

As a matter fact yes....that still isn't more than what the average experienced trucker makes in year, and that wage ain't everywhere

If you add EVERY HOUR were away from home, we dont make $10 an hour. We should be more than double that. But it keeps going in the wrong direction.

We aren't working every hour away from home. The truck is parked 10 hrs out of those days. Sometimes a consecutive 34 hrs. Why should anyone be paid to watch tv on a break? We are still doing way better than McDonald's workers, otherwise you'd be working there.

Most old people are over weight, and have high blood pressure. It is only a problem because some overweight Doctor said so. Left to our own devices we will make it.

Dude......its worth everything to me. Why? Because I am able to take care of my family and myself with no wasted effort. Its working for me/us. Don't come on here trying to shame me and other OTR truckers man. If OTR ain't for you that is fine, and if you think working at McDonald's is a better route, well....you're entitled to your opinion. All I know is if you take the yearly salaries of a fast food worker versus a trucker, the money ain't even close, otherwise all of us would be doing it.

My himetime is worth more and more to me as I close in in 60 and realize I have less and less of it. If I didnt OWN my truck, and had to spend 200k plus on a new one, you would he lucky to make as much as a fast food worker. My point is, wages are stagnated in the industry as costs keep going up. Once upon a time we actually did make real good money, the margins keep getting slimmer.

Again that's fine. You do what works for you. I'm happy for you. What fast food worker is making 60k in a year's time? You're stuck on the amount of money per hour. What good is a high hourly wage if the work ain't available? Fast food workers don't even work a full 40 hr week a lot of times. I used to work fast food. Even at 16.50 multiplied by 40 hrs, it's still not more than a trucker.
