the 2 1/2 years of business/accounting classes and all the experience/training as a maintenance nco in the army are what made my transition to o/o easy.
knowing or listening to where to find industry data on trends/history and such is critical as well. Will help you in projections on when to just park the truck or where to switch the lane from and move the truck.

Always be honest and answer form/ application questions completely. But never volunteer information.
The reason being is if you are involved in a serious accident, even not your fault, the lawyers will dig up every bit of info they can on you. They catch you in one lie and there goes your creditably and possibly the case and your career.Keyster and crimedoc96 Thank this. -
Maybe just try and not make a big deal about it when filling out your app and such. Some apps ask about your education, you could always just be a little vague about it. Where it says high school and college just check the box or say yes don't go into in depth or lengthy explanations of what you did or accomplished.
Definitely let them know about the military though! That is for sure a good plus and will help you greatly!crimedoc96 Thanks this. -
I have an Associates Degree in Web Programming, but I'm looking to do the same thing. I got my degree 7 years ago, and can't get a Web Programming job at all. There comes a time to try a different path, and for me this is the time.

one thing stands true through time.....
Freight has to move. -
I got my masters in English on 6/10, and started trucking school on 6/11. I just got my Class A yesterday. Everyone is asking me why, but no one has looked down on me for it. I don't mention my degree and if I do I make sure to joke about it. A masters in English gets me a dead end community college job or an SAT tutor gig that I'd feel trapped by, whereas trucking offers freedom, street smartness, time to think about things, and way more opportunity of staying employed as long as I'm willing to work. And companies want to hire me because I have a clean record, my certifications, work ethic, etc. not because I have or dont have a masters degree. I'm a girl too, and Asian, and weigh about 100 lbs. But i have 3 pre hires now and still counting. Lots of things stacked up against me in trucker world... but if you really want to do this, just give it a shot. If I can do it, anyone can.

They dont care what you have in this industry as long as you DONT have a criminal record and a bad driving record
I know this because I have two Bachelors and nearly completing my masters and not a single company I applied to even went that direction. It may serve you well if you want to apply for other jobs within the company after you have driven for a while

The only thing I'd say is: it ain't education that makes the man.
