Some Terminals are also leasing out parking spots to carriers whom may need overflow parking. I have even seen towing companies utilize their facilities by allowing a certain number of trailers to be parked on their property, for a fee of course. Might be a city that company doesnt have a terminal in, might be security reasons ie, secured location to drop trailer for repower. etc.

I drove for CRST way back in the 80's before they were team only. We picked up a lot of stuff and took it to local cartage companies to deliver. An example was QVC. Picked up a loaded 53' trailer in Pa and took it to UPS in Chicago. Another was a place in Stephenville TX that made sandpaper. Would drop it at a local outfit in Toledo and they would deliver it locally to different places.

sometimes if we have an overage on a load or a damaged shipment that was refused we will take it to an LTL to take it back to the original shipper...it depends on the size obviously..a whole trailer load..no..one or 2 pallets..yes..
