HPCR fuel systems just have a high pressure pump and a fuel rail. The pump maintains the rail at the target pressure and the injectors just open/close when the ECM instructs them to. There really isn't much for return fuel besides what leaks past the clearances in internal components.

A system with electronic unit injectors there's a passage inside the head that each injector is installed in. A low pressure fuel pump constantly circulates fuel through that passage and back into the tanks. The injector lobes on the cam are what generates the pressure required to inject into the cylinder. The electronic portion of the injector is what controls valves in the injector, making it inject. Altering when the valves open/close is how they control timing and the amount of fuel injected per stroke. The constant fuel flow through that passage in the head is what heats the fuel.

Like other said if below 0F your supposed to double the amount on Power Service. Plus if it first extreme cold for the yea double dose won’t hurt and might help if water in tanks from summer. It was -3F last night in Michigan I double dose or same thing bottle says. Plus I still idle company truck all night. To mush of risk to gell up in those extreme temperatures.

It’s -12F in Chicago area idling truck all night. Been putting anti gel in tanks like it says. One bottle will only treat 125 gallons at below 0. It’s crazy cold outside even idling engine the coolant is only about 140F.

This is not wind chill temperature but actually temperature. Windchill temperature doesn’t affect trucks. Don’t forget to fill up DEF fluid in advance also. Seen many truck stop DEF pump freeze up in extreme cold before and it doesn’t look like they are taking care of the heated DEF pumps at truck stops

I can stay home when it’s nuts cold outside and I’m not prepared. This week will cost most more money to stay running than it’s worth.

Freddy57, mitmaks, Feedman and 2 others Thank this.

Wind chill does affect mechanical things. Not like it affects living things but wind pulls residual heat away from everything. Bring two trucks up to operating temperature and turn them off and leave one in an unheated garage. Leave the other one in the wind. Which one will cool down faster? Yes technically wind chill only affects living creatures but in practice it affects pretty much everything.
