the bqe under the promenade is a joke, trucks CAN go under there
the bqe over by the triboro, DOT sits there waiting for you, so you go at your own risk, i always take the Astoria blvd route, as directed
i dont know of any parkway in nyc that a truck is allowed, the best i can think of is the Garden state in south jersey
what parkway do you know where a big truck can drive?

EZ thats my point you do not have to get off!!
If we obey every sign you will be working 20 hrs. a day.
On Long Island you have Motor Parkway and William Floyd Parkway.
How about pulling out of Hunts point market the first time every marker states 12' 4 ... what do you do ... keep going? then you need to get on the Bruckener Expressway good luck... not exactly easy for new drivers...
In the Bronx... Zerega Ave. to get to Long Island another great spot to get confused...
I thought this site was here for drivers to help other drivers... I didn't realize it was for drivers to criticize each other and prove they are the best out there... some of the best drivers I have seen never say a word about driving they just go about their business.canadianrebel Thanks this. -
Here it goes again--someone asks for help 5 people jump on them--maybe Im just in a bad mood(although really not)--So to CLEAR UP couple of things
1-There a are LOCAL st in NYC named Parkway--Little Neck and Douglaston Parkways come to mind first but there are others
The parkways being discussed here are limited access highways--think Interstate with NO TRUCKS ALLOWED--
2-There is a Trucks use Expressways Not Parkways Its the LAW sign somewhere close to EVERY entrance to the city--ie GWB--Verazzano&95 South 87 south
3-The 278 Atlantic Ave all trucks sign--actually meant something years back--WHEN THEY WERE REPAVING for a short amount of time--and No One could ever figure out WHY it Never came down!
As for route 9 north--better check that about N of GWB--Willing to bet it is ONLY on the bronx side--since at the Riverside drive--167 st Henry Hudson Pkwy Merge--the signs on Riverside drive clearly marked ALL TRUCKS--with an arrow up the ramp to the right which only allows you access to 95 north or south south being the GWB
SO PLEASE--if you are familiar with the city then please continue to help some of the folks here find there way if they need help--If you are just gonna trash at someone do it elsewhere! It has been my experience that some of the posters here asking legitimate questions are doing it real time and they are asking for help! I think they deserve that..
As usual--

all i know is i listen to a new york radio station on the satellite. and every morning. there's a truck screwing traffic up.
i've heard everything from broke down. to accident under a bridge to being on fire. and it seems to be at least a twice a week event. -
Typical trucker ########. I've never been to NY and don't want to from the horror stories I've heard all my life. I have always tried to help other drivers whenever possible but more times than not this kind of crap gets in the way. Sometimes just a little tip can save someone a lot of time and trouble.

Hamilton Parkway just on the other side of the VZ, use it to go to Linden ave to 27 and the sunrise when the BQE is at a standstill. Once out on the island I use multiple rds back to 495, depends on where I'm going.

jseney,
i always KNEW that route was ok, but someone told me recently if DOT catches you over there, you will get fined for being too far away from the highway
