nope..not always...and yeah...didnt say didnt get nervous...back in 09 when we were in that Pete in my avatar...we had a load going to long island...15 stops.....never been to any of them....the road they told us to take was closed....had to find another way....made a corner....LOW BRIDGE....i had to get out and back him out across and BUSY 4 way intersection ...to get us turned around.....i am not saying we havent made wrong turns....just never took the parkways....i will read the map...then re read it, then call for directions and if they dont make sense, call again, then you guessed it, read the map again......TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
THIS IS WHY I PREACH USING AN UPDATED MOTOR CARRIER ATLAS.. THAT'S RIGHT. A TRUSTY MAP BOOK.
i AM IN THE SAFETY DEPT. AND DRIVER AT A LARGER CARRIER. WE DO NOT TELL YOU NO GPS BUT TO USE EVERY TOOL AVAILABLE, THIS INCLUDES YOUR ATLAS...................................
TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
dont own a GPS....and dont plan to

Same here ...............

I find the GPS to be a valuable tool but so is a map. I always check my given GPS route and check it against my map. Most of the time it isn't a problem but it has tried to route me on restricted routes or routes with low clearances, even on a NY parkway. But I have common sense nd know parkways are a no no, as well as restricted roads, etc. Got to use your head and common sense. Between my GPS, road atlas and Android phone, I find my way. When the GPS conflicts with the designated truck routes in my Atlas, the Atlas wins.

Giggles the Original and TRKRSHONEY Thank this.

the atlas dno't win though.
it can't guide you through the city. unless you have a map for that specific city.
and since gps is electric. it can shock the map to death. LOLjoseph1135, Giggles the Original and Eaton18 Thank this. -
I dont know if you are here to be a provocateur or a contrarian... I did read your posts and responded to what you wrote...
I have some years of experience and wanted to convey to this to my fellow drivers...
MY message was to say that not everything in NYC is what it seems, as you can tell by all the messages on this thread there are still many different opinions. I will say this, as has been stated here, you do not have to get off the BQE to get to 495 from the Verazzano Bridge. OK now done with that!!!
Back to you... you are without a doubt part of the problem in trucking... this is because you failed at listening and only focused on being right!! You are lost my friend so go have some coffee and keep trying to wing it out there!!
good day my friend... hopefully you will learn as you progress through your career if you make it that far -
