dear reader sir/madam I am a trucker in africa with 15yrs expeience and would love to try and shed some light on this issue.
Consider this- a very important issue when driving a big rig is "economy" ie fuel consumption, brake useage etc.
Now while climbing a hill shud u need to slow down behind another vehcile simply because there is a 4 wheeler way back in the distance you would then be stuck at this slower speed for the duration of the hill thus using up a lot more fuel- remember that the 18 wheeler combined with the weight of the cargo is just to heavy to zip back up to speed on a hill not to mention the the fuel it would guzzle should u ask this of you're truck and if u did then it would just take twice as long to pass the slower truck wich would then slow other vehciles down twice as much and ALL OF THIS just because you are not prepared to slow down for a short while and then put you're foot back on the gas and be back up to speed in seconds barely costing you anything. Who do you think pays the bigger price?
And yes we all pay taxes and should be eqauly respectful of each other on the roads. What percentage of the tax we pay for an 18 wheeler do you pay for you're 4 wheeler ?
Any way I struggle to believe that any road user would do something simply because they are inconsiderate or rude, there has got to be a good reason for it even if that reason is simply a mistake and this is 1 thing I keep in mind every day.
I hope you kinda get my point and agree with me in some way but otherwise I would love to discuss it further or perhaps you would like us to hear you're side a bit more.
Happy motoring, keep safe and smiling.
Regards
Carl. -
I-35 elephant races are nothin. Try I-75 north from Wildwood with all the blue hairs and their RV's camped in the #1 lane.
shriner75 and notezbngrn71 Thank this. -
excellent post...
most of them are clueless but we already knew that.. -
you think thats bad come to canada, its law that anyone running thru ontario or quebec regardless of origin has to be governed at 105kmph (65.24 mph) and these cannot be turned on or off so if anyone runs into ontario from anywhere their truck must have a limiter to those speeds at all times it cannot be turned off when they leave it must be permanent. You should see the 401 corridor where its only 2 lanes in each direction.
Who do we have to blame? The so called "saftey" polititions and douche bags who think this is somehow safer. instead we have to deal with trucks all bunching up then trying to pass then idiot 4wheelers roadraging around them causing dangerous situations. -
I-95 and I-4 aren't much better thats why I hated trucking down there....Tazz Thanks this.
-
You think that's bad, that's nothin'...
Funny stuff - do you realize how rude that is? In fact, it's always funny to hear people talking, someone says "I lost two brothers in Iraq"... and some idiot chimes in... well that's nothing, my neighbor lost two brothers and a cousin".
Yes, losing two brothers is NOTHING?
Just one of those things that I find annoying from morons who always feel they have to "one up" someone with a better lie... I mean story. -
The Interstate Highway system was not created for 4-wheelers. It was created for two reasons:
#1) Defense: to easily move troops, equipment and supplies around the country in times of war.
#2) To move GOODS & SERVICES: This means the secondary and most widely reason the Interstate Highway System was created and maintained is for TRUCKS.
If you want to know the truth, 4-wheelers are guests on our roads. Next time a truck frustrates you, stop and think of the following:
"I wonder what they're hauling and if its something I buy?"
If you bought it, a truck brought it. -
You are two thirds correct...you are leaving out (intentionally?) the part the highway system plays in economic growth and emergency evacuation for 4 wheelers.
Roadmedic, RedForeman and shriner75 Thank this.
